description
Definition
A type of biofuel naturally created
from the breakdown of organic waste
is called biogas. This organic
material releases a mixture of gases
when it is exposed to an oxygen-free
atmosphere. Methane and carbon
dioxide are released in the largest
amounts, although other gases are
also released in smaller amounts
(between 50 and 75 percent,
depending on the amount of
carbohydrates contained in the
mixture).

Stages of Industrial Biogas Production:

1. To get it ready for anaerobic digestion, biowaste is broken up into

smaller bits and slurred. Slurring refers to the addition of liquid to the
biowaste to facilitate processing.
2. The biowaste is heated to about 37 °C because microbes like warm
environments.
3. The actual biogas production takes place through anaerobic digestion
in large tanks for about three weeks.
4. The gas is upgraded (purified) in the last step by eliminating
contaminants and carbon dioxide.
● Fermentable, biomass-containing
residues (sewage sludge,
Raw biodegradable waste, food residue

and etc.)
Residues from livestock farming
(manure)
● Previously unused plants/plant
parts (intermediate fruits, plant
residues)
● Energy crops(corn, sugar beet)

The gas composition and

methane content are influenced by the
source ingredients. Because a
significant amount of raw materials,
particularly manure and plant leftovers,
are typically free, they have the highest
economic potential for the production
of biogas.

Production
waste products
and disposal
What is the waste product of biogas?

Most of this waste is sent to landfills, where it produces methane as it breaks

down. While landfills may capture the resultant biogas, landfilling organic
wastes provides no opportunity to recycle the nutrients from the source organic
material

Issues
Biogas in not sustainable! During the creation and usage of biogas,
hazardous substances and air pollutants
are released into the environment via
combustion and diffuse emissions. The
Even though it is made from organic same air pollutants are released while
wastes like animal or food waste, burning manure-produced gas as when
biogas is rarely "clean" or "green" in burning fossil fuels. The industrial farms
the sense that most people define that produce the biomethane can release
those terms. Biogas is explosive, dangerous pollutants into the air and
release nitrates into groundwater, which
extremely poisonous, and flammable.
just makes the situation worse.
