Countable or Measurable
Direction: Identify whether the given situation is countable or
measurable. The students will raise their RIGHT hand if the situation is
COUNTABLE, LEFT hand if it is MEASURABLE.

• Number of students inside the classroom

• Amount of salt needed to cook chicken tinola.
• Number of likes your recent post received.
• Capacity of an auditorium
• Length of the chalkboard
Answer:

COUNTABLE MEASURABLE
Number of the students inside Amount of salt needed to
the classroom cook tinola
Number of likes your recent Capacity of an auditorium
post received
Length of chalkboard
VARIABLE
• A variable is a characteristics that is observable
or measurable in every unit of the universe.
• Variables can be broadly classified as either
quantitative or qualitative.
• And quantitative can be classified into discrete
and continuous.
CREATE YOUR GROUP PROFILE
To create a group profile in statistics class, the members of
each team will fill up the following data:

•Name of the students

•Gender
•Age
•Number of siblings
•Daily allowance
•Religion
•Height in cm
•Weight in kg
•Final grade in General Math Subject
Guide Question:
• When do you say that the variable is qualitative?
• When do you say that the is quantitative?
• Among the quantitative variables, which are
discrete? Why?
• Among the quantitative variables, which are
continuous? Why?

• A random variable is a discrete random variable if its set of possible
outcomes is countable.
• A random variable is a continuous random variable if it takes on
values of a continuous scale. Often, continuous random variables
represent measured data, such as height, weights and temperatures.
• The number of covid – 19 patient per hour at Bicol Medical Center.
• The number of patients attributed to covid- 19 in the Philippines.
• The average amount of electricity consumed per household per
month.
• The number of voters who reported for registration.
• The amount of sugar in a cup of coffee.

Make a survey regarding the use of the cellphone of 5 of your
classmates using the following variables. For each of them, classify the
qualitative and the quantitative. Distinguish a quantitative variable as
to discrete or continuous.
• Number of family members with cellphone
• Type of ownership
• Length(in minute) of longest call made on each cellphone
• Amount paid for cellphone load per month
Generalization
• How do you classify quantitative and qualitative variable?
• How do you distinguish discrete and continuous variable?
