part 1
(SECOND QUARTER)

MS. MA. CRISTINA V. MORI

SCIENCE TEACHER
DRILL: Tell if the following statements is True or False.

_______1. Adaptation is the ability of an organism to survive

to it’s given environment.
_______2. Aquatic animals are animals that live on water.
_______3. Gills are specialized body structures use by land
animals to survive on land.
_______4. Clams have exoskeleton that serves as
protection for the body.
_______5. Land/ Terrestrial animals have legs that allows it
to walk and run on it’s habitat.
RECALL:
 Living things like animals’ lives
around our environment.
 An animal that lives in water is called
aquatic animals. Aquatic animals
behave differently in other animals
that live on land.
 Their behavior helps them survive
underwater. These animals have body
structures that enable them to adapt to
their specific habitats for growth and
survival,such body parts are important
to help them survive in water.
RECALL:
 An animal that lives in land
is called terrestrial animals.
Terrestrial animals have
different body structures too.
 Their body parts are adaptive
to land. They can walk, fly,
crawl and run because of
such parts.
 Terrestrial animals breathe
through their lungs.
HI I’M MR. PLANT JUST LIKE
ANIMALS I NEED CERTAIN
THINGS IN ORDER TO SURVIVE
AND ADAPT TO THE HABITAT
THAT I LIVE IN.

CAN YOU NAME SOME OF THE

THINGS THAT I NEED INORDER
FOR ME TO GROW?
FACTORS THAT AFFECT PLANT GROWTH:

Hi I’m Mr. Soil I’m important because I

give additional nutrients or food needed
by plants to grow.

Aside from that the roots of the plant

hold on to me to hold the plant upright.
FACTORS THAT AFFECT PLANT GROWTH:

Hi I’m Mr. Water I’m needed by all living

things including plants. I’m essential for
living things to survive because I’m present
in their composition/body.

I also acts as a transport medium to plants so

that nutrients coming from the roots through
the soil can be distributed throughout the
different parts of the plant’s body.
FACTORS THAT AFFECT PLANT GROWTH:

Hi I’m Mr. Sun. Autotrophic plants needed

my light so that they can manufacture/ make
their own food. Through the process of
PHOTOSYNTHESIS(“Photo” means light
and “Synthesis” means food making.

Without me autothrophic plants ‘chlorphyll

(GREEN PIGMENT on Plant’s leaves) could
not make their own food and other organism
will perish
FACTORS THAT AFFECT PLANT GROWTH:

Hi we are the Carbon Dioxide brothers.

If Oxygen is the air needed by humans and
animals to survive we the Carbon Dioxide
are the air needed by plants.

During PHOTOSYNTHESIS Carbon

Dioxide are utilize by plants with the aid of
Sunlight to create their own plant food.
1. What do those plants have in
common?
2. What body structure do those plants
have to survive on its habitat?
KINDS OF PLANTS IN OUR
ENVIRONMENT:
TERRESTRIAL PLANTS AQUATIC PLANTS
 Justlike animals there are many
plants found in our environment.
 Some grows on land while others
grow on water.
 Plants also need to adapt to their
given habitat in order for them to
survive.
 Just like terrestrial and aquatic
animals terrestrial and aquatic
plants also develops structures that
allows them to survive in their
environment.
ADAPTATION:
 An adaptation is the structure or
behavior that helps an organism
survive in its environment or
habitat.
 All organisms whether it is plants or
animals need to adapt or learn to
adapt to their environment/habitat
to ensure survival.
Terrestrial Plants
 Plants or trees that are found in
land is called Terrestrial Plants.
 Terrestrial plants are found in wide
rage area from plants growing in
soil, sand to plants growing from
rocks and decaying barks of trees all
of them are considered terrestrial or
land plants.
TERRESTRIAL PLANTS
 Terrestrial plants are plants that grow on
land.
 Some Terrestrial plants are small, others are
big.
 There are plants with big trunks while others
have soft stem.
 Other plants bear flowers while others do
not.
 Terrestrial plants grow in different places
and can adopt to varied conditions however;
their structures are suited to particular
needs. Roots of the plants adopt themselves
to their habitat.
TERRESTRIAL PLANTS: DESERT PLANTS
 Cactus is a desert plant, it can
survive in a hot-dry climates.
They have thick, fleshy stem
with waxy skin. The Stem
stores water and the tough
skin keeps the water from
evaporation.
TERRESTRIAL PLANTS: SEASHORE PLANTS
 Coconut tree can live near the
ocean because they have
specialized structure to
convert salty water into fresh
water. They enjoy sandy soil,
and are wind tolerant.
TERRESTRIAL PLANTS: GRASSLAND PLANTS
 Grasslands have strong roots
and flexible stems so they
cannot be pulled or broken by
strong winds. They have small
leaves to ensure reduce water
loss.
 Ex: Buffalo grass land,
fleabane and milk weed.
TERRESTRIAL PLANTS OTHER FEATURES
 Plants like bananas produce big, broad
leaves to efficiently trap more energy from
the Sun.

 Plants with waxy leaves help to protect

themselves from dehydration as a result of too
much exposure to the sunlight. Taro leaves is the
best example of it.

 The trees in mountain regions are conical shaped

with sloping branches. The leaves of plants are
needle like in shape which helps rainwater and
snow to slide off easily. Pine tree, deodar and fir
are the best example.
TERRESTRIAL PLANTS OTHER FEATURES
 TROPICAL RAINFOREST
 Trees in such forests are of great
height to reach the maximum
sunlight as very little sunlight
reaches the ground that is why
plants at lower levels have big,
broad leaves to absorb sunlight.
LET’S SUM -UP:
 Terrestrial Plants are plants that grow on land.
They grow in different places. Like desert, seashore,
mountain region, tropical rain forest and most of
them are found in the field.
 Roots, leaves, and stem of the plants adapt
themselves to their habitat. They deeper in size and
shapes too. These characteristic are determine by
their function
 Plants with waxy leaves help to protect themselves
from dehydration as a result of too much exposure
to sunlight
 Some stems have thorns that provide protection.
Some have thick stem that store water when the
habitat does not provide it.
Let’s Answer: Write T if the statement true and F
if it is false .
_____1. Just like animals plants needs to adapt to their
given environment to survive.
_____2. Terrestrial plants live within watery environments.
_____3. Rice plant is an example of terrestrial plant.
_____4. Terrestrial plants grow directly on soil while
others grow on rock.
_____5. Plants needed Sunlight, Air, Soil and Water in
order to live.
