Aims of the exercise

• Repetition of the content of the lecture


• Application of content of the lecture by performing related calculation exercises
• Possibly extension of the content of the lecture
• Encourage own research
• Practicing teamwork
• Learn and practice proper documentation
• Practice presentation skills (Am I able to explain to others what I did?)

 The submission is done as a group submission, the person who uploads the document submits for the
whole group!
 Submission is done in groups of up to four people (everyone is responsible for everything)
 We will compare the submissions across groups and we also know the solution from the Internet!
 If we find identical exercises among the groups or copies from the internet, we will classify the

Guidance for the layout of the exercise

• On paper (DIN A4), handwritten, clean handwriting or electronically (you may use the
template). If you scan the pages, please use at least 300 dpi or a smartphone with the
appropriate app.
• Please submit files only as *.pdf files. (OLAT only)
• May include an explanation, why you selected a specific equation.
• Proper structure, comprehensible calculation.
Comprehensible does mean: You still know after 1 week, what you did and why!
• First "calculate with letters", later insert values.
• Calculate units and verify.
• No hardcopies from the Internet

Checklist for ordinary solutions
Major formal errors
Missing reference or missing cross reference to the source
Missing answer sentence or reference to answer
- 1P (e.g. result not highlighted)
missing units
Used quantity, which is not introduced in the task, was not defined
Minor formal errors
wrong use of symbols, e.g. instead of “=“ a “≈” is used or vice versa
Incorrect rounding of values, specification of too many decimal places
First rearrange equations, insert values only at the end (First letters later numbers)
- 0.5 P Missing connection between two lines, or in the editing progress.
Remedy them with phrases like:
• Written brief statement e.g.: "It follows:", "Using Eq. 1 and Eq. 2 yields:" or
"Rearranging yields ...".
• mathematical connection e.g.: Equivalence ““

Criteria for passing

• successful participation in exercises (> 50 %) in each but two submissions.


• Presentation: At least(!) one task per semester successfully presented, may be
more by call.
• We will inform you about your presentation task, a week before.
• If all criteria are accomplished, then you will be admitted to the exam (exam is
graded).
• One written exam after each semester (Combined exam SSP I and II, you MUST
pass both exercises!) during the examination period.
