INTRODUCTION
 The Word AutoCAD is made up up of two words “Auto(logo of company)” and
CAD”(Computer Aided Design)”.
 AutoCAD allows you to accomplish design and drafting activities using a computer.

Design – is abroad field involving the process of making an idea into real product or system.
Drafting – is generally known as the production of drawings that are used to document a
design from manufacturing or construction.
 Accuracy – It stores numeric data with great precisions. It works fast and very well as

it contains less data due to 2D Co-ordinate systems.

 Productivity for Repetitive Operations – Shaped, drawings, and elements can easily be duplicated

(copy/paste)
 Sharing the CAD file with other software programs – Drawings can be imported to other programs.
 AutoCAD is 2D and 3D modeling software.
 Autodesk is an U.S.A based company.
 It is widely used in industry for 2D drawing and 3D modeling.
VERSION OF AUTOCAD

• AutoCAD software was firstly launched by Autodesk company in Dec, 1982.

• Autodesk is a U.S.A. based company
• It introduced in India in 1988.

• The first version of AutoCAD was R1 after that R2,R3,R4,….....And so on.

• In 2000,autodesk launched a version of AutoCAD 2000 after that 2001, 2002,

…………so on , till the latest version of AutoCAd 2023.

• Latest version is easy to use as compare to that old versions as it

overcome the difficulties of old ones.
AUTOCAD SCREEN
PARTS OF THE AUTOCAD WINDOW
• 1. Application menu/button.
• It is present at the upper-left corner of the workspace. To close the application menu, we can click anywhere outside the
application button or window.
• 2. Quick Access Toolbar
• The Quick Access Toolbar is located at the top of the application window and right of the application menu. It consists of
the set of frequently used commands. We can add and remove the commands according to the requirements.
• 3. Ribbon Panel
• It provides access to the dialog box related to the panel. If the ribbon panel disappears, then we need to enter the 'ribbon' on
the command line to display the ribbon panel on the workspace.
• 4. User Coordinate System (UCS)
• The UCS is the active coordinate system that represents the XY plane in 2D and XYZ planes in 3D. It acts as the direction
in the X, Y, and Z-axis for drawing and modeling. We can control the origin and orientation of the UCS to make drawings
according to the specific points and coordinates. We can also work with drawing aids such as Grid and the ortho mode.
CONT.
• The 2D UCS is shown in the given image:

• The 3D UCS is shown in the given image:

• 5. Model Space / Work Space / Drawing Window
• It is defined as the area to create 2D and 3D drawings, models, and objects. We can create using different
commands according to the requirements.
• 6. View Cube
• The View Cube is termed as the navigation tool that is displayed when we are working on a 2D or 3D model
space. We can switch between the isometric view and the standard view of our drawings or model.
• 7. Navigation Bar
• The Navigation Bar is used to access the navigation tools.
It is a user interface element, where we can access
both unified (common tools) and product-specific
tools (unique product tools).

• 8. Model Layout Tab
A layout is defined as a 2D working environment for creating the drawing sheets.
The model tab is the screen where we create the 2D and 3D drawings.
• 9. Command Line Window (shortcut key- ctrl+9)
The command line window is used to write the commands. We need to press 'Enter' after typing any.
particular command. The AutoCAD also displays the steps after each command on the Command
line. We need to select the option and press 'Enter' after each step.
• 10. Status Bar
The status bar displays the drawing tools that affect the drawing environment. It provides quick access It
to most of the commonly used drawing tools.
includes options such as ISODRAFT, ORTHOMODE, AUTOSNAP, OSNAP, etc.

• 11. View Control
The View Control is displayed on the left corner of the viewport. It provides a suitable way to change
views, visual settings, and styles. It includes options such as top, bottom, left, right, etc.

• 12. Visual Style Control

The Visual Style Control is the customized setting that controls the structure view of the models or 3D
drawings created on the Viewport. The options include 2D Wireframe, Realistic, Shaded, Conceptual,
Hidden, etc.
• 13. File Tab
The file tab consists of the current drawing files opened on the screen.
• 14. Mouse Cursor
The cursor used to draw figures, etc. is known as the mouse cursor.
WAYS TO COMMAND AUTOCAD.
• 1. From AutoCAD Ribbon
• Ribbon was introduced in AutoCAD 2009. If you learn AutoCAD after this version, you probably use this as primary method. I found
that many occasional users also like ribbon. I’m not suggesting it’s the best method, but I do like it than toolbar.

• 2. From Quick Access Toolbar

• Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) comes with ribbon interface. It contains most frequently used AutoCAD tools.

.

•  Toolbar
• Toolbar is a method to activate a command with graphical user interface, before we have ribbon. Each toolbar has
several similar tools. You need to remember the icon because there is no label next to the icon. Yes, there’s tool
tip to help you identify a tool. But it’s still not easy to find a tool if you use AutoCAD occasionally.
• The benefit of using toolbar is it takes less space than Ribbon.
• 4. AutoCAD Menu

Like toolbar, AutoCAD menu is not shown by default. It’s available in Classic Workspace, but you can still
use it.

• 5. Command Line
• Veteran AutoCAD users love command line. When I teach other software to them, they always ask if the software had similar feature. Not many software
use it. So command line makes AutoCAD quite unique.
• Instead of using mouse and clicking the icons, you can type the commands here.

.
HOW AUTOCAD WORKS

 There is a co-ordinate system used in AutoCAD.

 Every drawing shows its co-ordinate.

 There is so many commands like copy, move, mirror in 2D, rotate,

path array, rectangular array, pollar array and more.

 Different types of drawings can be made in the same time by using a command that

Is LAYER.

 Using line, arc, circle, rectangle, ellipse & polygon , so many drawings of different types can be made.
CO-ORDINATE SYSTEM
• Everything that we draw in AutoCAD is exact.
• All object drawn on screen is based o simple X-Y co-ordinate system.
• In AutoCAD it is known as world co-ordinate system(WCS).
SOME 2D COMMANDS
1.Line command 2. Rectangle command 3. Circle command 4. Arc

5. Trim 6. Extend 7. Move 8.Miror

3D COMMANDS

• Extrude : The extrude command in AutoCAD is used to create a surface or solid of a 2D surface.
• Join : With the use of this command, we can join line drawn or placed in the same plane. On invoking this command, we
have to select the first line and after that second line placed at the same plane and then right click. After using this
command, there will be no space between the lines or entities.

• Subtract : creates as a new object by subtracting one overlapping region or 3D solid from another. We use subtract
command.
• 3D Rotate : Using 3D command in AutoCAD, you can easily rotate an object from the point x, y to z or to y, z or vice
versa.
ADVANTAGES OF AUTOCAD DISADVANTAGES OF
AUTOCAD
• 1. A mid range software.
• 1. Registered software is expensive.

BASIC COMMANDS IN FUSION 360
• EXTRUDE: the extrude command adds depth to open or closed sketch profiles or face . When you
invoke the extrude command, and there is only profile visible in your design, it is automatically
selected.
• design > solid > create > extrude

• FILLET: the fillet command rounds the edges of a solid body by removing the material from exterior
edges or adding material to interior edges.
• Design > solid > modify > fillet

• REVOLVE: the revolve tool creates a solid body by revolving a selected profile or model geometry
around an axis in fusion 360.
• design > solid > create > revolve
SOME BASIC COMMANDS IN FUSION 360
• SWEEP: he use of sweep command to extrude a profile along a path to create a solid body in fusion
360. solid > create > sweep

• CHAMFER: this command is used to bevel edges on a solid body in fusion 360 .
Design > solid > modify > chamfer

• LOFT: it is used to create a smooth a T-spline body that transitions between two or more sketch
