MASS COMMUNICATION
COMMUNICATION
• refers to a group of people importing or
exchanging messages through speaking,
writing, gestures or even using other symbol
forms by utilizing a variety of channel for
sending and receiving.
• it plays an essentials role in our lives.

Messages- “a collection of symbols that appear
purposefully organized to those sending or receiving
them"
TYPES OF
COMMUNICATION
• Interpersonal communication
-“a form of communication that involves two to three individuals interacting
through the use of their voices and bodies.“ - Turow (2009,8)

•Mediated Interpersonal communication


- communication becomes mediated through the use of device such as pen,
telephone, or computer.
- Technology stands in between the parties communicating and becomes the
channels by which the message is sent or received.
TYPES OF
COMMUNICATION
• Small group communication
- discourge between three or more persons.

• Organizational Communication
- people communicate differently in a working environment.
- These messages flow through faculty meetings memorandum posted in the
bulletin boards for the personal to see.

• Public communication
-involves one person communicating through a large number of people.
Eight Elements (Turrow (2009, 9-11)
1. Source- where the messages came from.

2. Encoding- process by which messages is translated so it can


transmitted and communicate to another party.

3. Transmitting- actual act of sending the messages.

4. Channels- technologies are the lines that enables the act of sending
or transmitting.
- telephone the internet for voice operated application.
5. Decoding- transmitted impulses are converted to process and process it.

6. Receiver- the one who gets the messages that was transmitted through
the channels.

7. Feedback- response generated by the messages that was sent to the


receiver.

8. Noise interference- something that interferns in the transmitted


process.
-transmitted both.
Literally- a mechanical sound that is perhaps more resonant than the
messages drowning it.

Figuratively- resistance of the intended receiver to the messages being


sent to his or her direction.

Many ways by which you send a message in face-to-face communication


you use your body to say something.
- Stress a point
- Cover your face to express
- Chuckles to express amusement
