Sequence in technology tables follows calculation sequence for
dimensioning of respective technology

10
Approach for dimensioning ASRS

1. Based on capacity requirements WDT2 calculates minimal number of aisles under consideration of
o … building limitations of max. height and max. length
o … technical limitation like max. length of aisle (limitation of rail, laser distance meter, etc.)

2. Based on performance requirements WDT2 calculates required number of aisles (independent from step 1).

3. Under consideration of max. number of aisles WDT2 shortens the aisles so that required static and dynamic capacity is
reached

This approach is the reasoning why WDT2

technology tables are in sequence
1. Requirements & Limitations
2. Height
3. Length
4. Width

11
Lines are grouped by functionality, columns are grouped by language

1. Only “MUST input” and

general results area shown

2. All pre-defined input values

are shown (input values are
highlighted in orange)

3. Calculations, formulas,
results are shown
(should not be changed)

4. Export area is shown

12
Comment what you do for later traceability

If you change a pre-defined

value leave a comment for
later traceability here.

13
Auxiliary calculations are meant as a proposal

The planner can use

proposed auxiliary calculation
or can add own calculations

The planner can add extra lines

in all areas of technology table
but not in “Export” area and
above (Lines 1-59)

Considering max. possible height WDT2 calculates an approximately square
area as standard (to be adapted by planner)
Locations in • Box with height of 330mm is set as standard (to be
Z-dimension
not limited in adapted by planner).
WDT2
• Max. stack height is set as standard

• X-dimension and Z-dimension are each calculated via

Locations in
X-dimension which leads to a squared area
not limited in
Max. height (Y) WDT2
approx. 6.00 m
(depending on box type)

Max. height depending on box type:

• Max. 24 boxes w/ height of 220mm
• Max. 16 boxes w/ height of 330mm
• Max. 14 boxes w/ height of 425mm

21
WDT2 can only calculate rectangular AutoStore shapes.
If necessary several rectangular systems must be inserted into WDT2

22
2 approaches for defining number of robots

Approach 1: calculation of process time per Approach 2: performance benchmark cross check if area per robot is sufficient
robot (driving and lifting)
• Under consideration of max. velocity and Benchmark given by swisslog (2019) Benchmark given by swisslog (2019)
acceleration the travelling time (forth and • Red line (default): 25 boxes /h /robot • 1 robot needs approx. 25 stacks of boxes
back) is calculated.
(default setting: 55% of storage width, 55% of length) • Black line: 30 boxes / h /robot • This equals approx. 9 sqm
(default value in WDT2 is set to 10 sqm)
• Box lifting time is distinguished between
A-articles (80%) and B/C-articles (20%). • If there is not sufficient area per robot it
is indicated in the table. Then the number
Restacking of boxes per stack must be lowered.
• It is considered that the robots have to
“dig” even for A-articles (but not so deep)
• For B/C-articles robots have to retrieve
all A-articles of a stack and in addition
some B/C-articles
• For “digging” it is considered that
restacked boxes are temporarily buffered
nearby (10m drive way forth and back)

Maximum of both calculations is considered

Investment calculation tables have been taken from ICT for easy
transfer between tools (separately per language)

Relevant tables have been taken from ICT.

CAUTION: currently “CalcTab” is not linked

to “Comparison” table.

25
Input is taken over from Export area of each technology table

Taken from Export area

(reasoning why aisles in export area must not be added)

ICT elements are clustered for better

traceability
(please adapt according to your project)

As long as there is no makro programmed following process must
be done

1
(1) Delete values
of respective trade 2
(2) Insert values in import
in column A area (instead of indirect link
(leave cells empty) to technology table)

3
(3) Copy all lines to ICT

4
(3) In ICT: search and replace formulas which
are linked to WDT2

5
(3) Add trade name again
in WDT and in ICT

You can compare the same warehouse technologie in different sizes

1. Copy the Tab of the warehouse technology

2. Rename the copied Tab
3. Rename the header of the Tab
4. Go to „RechenTab“ and copy the area of that technology
5. Rename the copied area
6. Define the warehouse area and worklplaces in the renamed Tab

35
How to use Blanko

Upcoming Updates

We need your input for the continuous improvement of the tool.

Beneath troubleshooting urgent problems, following updates are planned:

• IN ALIGNMENT WITH ICT TEAM adding the possibility to decide between invest and rent for building, IT and forklifts in
WDT-Parameters. Therefore OPEX rows are added in Comparison and the formulas in CalcTab and („RechenTab“) are
adjusted.

• Enhancement of the FTE-Calculation: adding the possibility to add different types of workstations

• Automatic calculation of a second pre-zone for throughputs higher 1.800 (=1.500*1,2) transport units per hour in all
automatic systems
