1.6 TYPES OF SURVEYING
• According to the size of • According to the
the survey area: purpose of surveying:
– Geodetic Surveying – Cadastral Surveying
– Plane Surveying. – Topographic Surveying
– Hydrographic Surveying
• According to method of – Route Surveying
surveying: – Construction Surveying
– Ground Surveying – Mine Surveying
– Remote Surveying – Military Surveying, etc.
1.7 UNITS OF MEASUREMENT
Metric System English System
Length Measurements:
centimeter (cm), meter (m) & kilometer (km) inch (in, "), foot (ft, '), yard (yd) & mile
1 meter = 100 cm 1 foot = 12 inches=12*2.54=30.48 cm
1 kilometer = 1000 m =30.48/100=0.3048m
=5280*0.3048=1609.344 m
=1609.344/1000=1.609 km=1.61km
1 yard = 3 ft
1 mile = 5280 ft
Area Measurement:
m2, donum, hectare (ha) and km2 ft2, acre
1 donum = 1,000 m2 1 acre = 43560 ft2
1 hectare = 10,000 m2
1 km2 = 1,000,000 m2 1 he = 10000 m2
Volume Measurement:
cm3, liter, m3 in3, ft3, yd3
1 m3 = 1,000,000 cm3 1 ft3 = 1728 in3
1 m3 = 1,000 liters 1 yd3 = 27 ft3
• Example 1.1 page 12: How many KM in A MILE?
• 1 km = 1000 m
• =1000*(100/30.48)=3280.83 ft.
• 1 mile = 5280 ft
• = 5280/3280.83 =1.609 km.
• 2*π
• The Radian System ()ن ظام ا لراديان. 2π = 2*3.14 =2*(22/7)
• 3600 = 400g = 2*pie
• 1. rad… sexagesimal
• 3600………..2π
• X ……….1.5
• X = (1.5*360)/2π =85.94370 = 850 56’ 37’’
• 2. rad… Centesimal
• 400g………..2π
• X ……….1.5
• X = (1.5*400)/2π =95.4930 = 95g 49c 30cc
• Example 1.3
• Change the angle 1.5 radians into equivalent values in both the
sexagesimal and centesimal?
• 1. sexagesimal
• 2*pie = 360
• 1.5 = ? X x = (1.5*360)/2*pie = 85.98^0 = 85^0 59^’ 14^’’
• 2. centesimal
2*pie = 400
1.5 = ? Y y= (1.5*400)/2*3.14= 95.4930 = 95g 49c 30cc
• Q. Transform the angle 1180 33’ 57’’ to its
equivalent in decimal and radian?
• 1. 118.5658………x
• 3600………….400g
131.7398 = 131g 73c 98cc
2. 118.5658………y
