Measures of Correlation

• Reliability is one quality of a good research, being analytic as a

researcher makes your study reliable and dependable, that is why
this endeavor always utilizes proven analytical procedures in
collecting data. From the process of collecting data to analyzing
data, we choose a statistical tool that aids us to measure the strength
and weakness of the variables involved in the research process.
Measures of Correlation

• Measures of Correlation helps us to gauge the relationships between

two variables in our studies, helping us to give appropriate
interpretations for the values acquired in the study, making the
results more understandable and easier to comprehend to all, thus
making it dependable and reliable
Correlation

• Refers to the linear association between two variables. It examines

the extend to which the variables are associated or correlated with
each other. Different methods of correlation summarize the
relationship between two variables in a single number called the
correlation coefficient which is usually represented by the symbol r
and ranges from -1 to +1.
Interpreting the Sum of Correlation Coefficient.

The correlation coefficient is a value that indicates how strong or weak is the
relationship between variables.
The coefficient can take any values from -1 to +1.
The interpretations of the values are:
+1 indicates a Perfect Positive Correlation which means that the variables
are directly proportional to each other and moving at the same direction.
0 - No Correlation at all
-1 indicates a Perfect Negative Correlation which means that the variables
are moving in opposite direction, that they are inversely proportional to each
other.
Interpreting the Sum of Correlation Coefficient.
Scatter Diagram
Using the Scatter Diagram also enables us to see the relationship that
exists between two variables. It shows how the variables are related.
Pearson Correlation Coefficient

• Also known as the Pearson r, measures the strength of a linear

association between two variables. It can take the range of values
from +1 to -1. Just like our first discussion, 0 correlation coefficient
means there is no relation at all.

Spearman Rank Correlation (Sr)

• It is another tool used in Correlational Analysis which is similar to

the concept of the Pearson r, it also measures the degree of
association between two variables. Its difference to the Pearson r is
that this test does not carry any assumptions about the distribution
of the data. It is the appropriate correlation analysis when the
variables are measured on a scale that is at least ordinal.
