Roots & History
• The history of the family is a branch of social history that
concerns the sociocultural evolution of kinship groups
from prehistoric to modern times. The family has a
universal and basic role in all societies.
• Why history of family is important?
• A family health history can identify people with a higher-than-usual
chance of having common disorders, such as heart disease, high
blood pressure, stroke, certain cancers, and type 2 diabetes.
These complex disorders are influenced by a combination of genetic
factors, environmental conditions, and lifestyle choices.
Tracing one’s generation
• Deeper Personal Identity
Tracing family roots back through generations can help a person connect
more deeply with a sense of self by learning about their family's past—
where they came from, who they were, what they did, the trials they
overcame, the accomplishments they achieved, the dreams they had
fulfilled.
• It also talks about how mental disorder could have originated or how they
were passed on from one generation to the next.
• What is the best way to trace your family origin?Through public
records you can find evidence in birth certificates, marriage certificates and
Wills for instance. Talking to people and writing to relatives could also
provide clues and ultimately your detective work could take you anywhere
from local graveyards and memorials to record offices.
Make a Family Tree
Genealogy: You can create this by being articulate about it.
Your diagram could start from you and trace it back to your
parent, grandparents from both paternal and maternal side .
