DO’s and DON’Ts

in the
Administration of
Quick RAP
The DO’s in the
Administration of
the Quick RAP
What to do during the
administration of
Quick RAP?
1) Make sure that the child is in
a quiet and well-lit space. If
possible, ask the home learning
partners to stay in another
room.
2) Establish rapport with the
child by talking to them in a
language they understand best.
3) Make sure you also have the
following with you during the
assessment:
• Pencil and eraser
• Drinking water
4) Motivate the child in
a language they
understand best.
5) If you noticed that the child is
feeling anxious, remind them of
these:
a. The activity is just a game.
b. It is good to practice.
c. It is okay to make mistakes.
6) If the child seems stuck but is
unable to tell you so, ask him/her if
he/she want to try the next items.
For example: Do you want to try
the next one? Okay, let us do that.
7) If the child is distressed,
stop the assessment. Try again
on another day when the child
is feeling motivated and
confident.
8) Allow the child to
read at his/her own
pace.
9) Child should read
all items out loud.
10) If the child makes a
mistake but immediately
self-corrects, he/she still
gets a point.
11) If the child continues to make
mistakes in the words he/she
reads, do not tell him/her that
he/she is wrong. Simply move on
to the next item.
12) Complete the Class
Record sheet immediately
after each child is
assessed.
Record the details in your Class Record. For example:

▪ child’s state during the assessment (in distress,

assessment discontinued)
▪ child’s reading behaviors (self-corrects, reads
by syllables)
▪ action points (review uppercase letters,
reteach vowel sounds)
Based on their results, each child will
be placed into one of four profiles:
Level 1- Grappling
Level 2- Coping
Level 3- Establishing
Level 4- Advancing
Upon submission online, make
sure that data are tallied:

- Enrolment with the number of

assessed learners and their
reading profiles.
