Marco Polo: the Silk Road pt.1
He was a Italian explorer and merchanded.
His father and uncle took his with them to
explore Asia through the Silk Road between
1271-1295. They explored Asia until they
reached China were they were received by
Kublai Kahn. He was so impressed by
Marco that Marco ended up serving him as
his foreign emissary. Marco Polo served him
for 17 years. They were offered to
accompany the Mongol princess to Persia.
After 24 years he returned home.

Spanish explorer who completed four
voyages across the Atlantic ocean, which
on October 12th,1492 though had
discovered a new route to India, not
knowing that, in reality, he had
discovered America.
He did four expeditions in total.
His expedition were the first European
contact with America.

Marco Polo: the Silk Road pt.2
Marco was captured by the Genoas after
joining the war with Genoa. He dictated
his stories to Rustichello da Pisa, he
published the book with the title ”II
Milione” in 1299. The book described to
Europeans the culture of the east Asian
counties. He became a wealthy merchant
and died in 1324.

a new route to India pt.2
The intention of his expedition was to
reach India and it took him five weeks
to cross the ocean. He set sail from
“Palos de la frontera” with tree ships.
Once he arrived to America, he called
the habitants “indies”.
Columbus opened the European
exploration and colonization in
America. A lot of island were named by
him ex. Montserrat, Dominican
Republic, etc.

Vasco da Gama: the sea route to
India
Portuguese explorer who discovered the the
sea route to India. This enabled to spread
the Portuguese colonial empire from Africa
to Asia. He started his first trip on July 8th,
1497 from Lisbon, edging the African coast,
sailing towards India. After 3 months they
had reached south Africa. Until finally, on
may 20th, 1498 they arrived in India. He
returned to Lisbon in 1499. He died on
chrismas of 1524 on his third voyage, after
being Viceroy of the Portuguese India.
Hernán Cortes. Oh look!, Gold!
Hernan Cortes was a Spanish explorer
who in 1519 arrived to Cozumel, to
start the Spanish colonization of
Mexico. Cortes was received by
Moctezuma II in Tenochtitlan, who
gifted him gold, this exited his will to
plunder. He fought against the Aztec
empire with the help of his translator
Malinche. Once he won the named the
territory as ”New Spain”, starting the
Spanish occupation over Mexico until
1810.
Francisco Pizarro: the colonization
of the Inca empire
Francisco Pizarro was a Spanish
conquistador and explorer who,
colonized the Inca empire, now
known as Peru.
He landed in Peru in 1531, and in
May1532 he established the first
Spanish settlement in Peru. He
proceeded to seal his conquest on
November 15th, 1533 by entering
Cuzco the Capital of Peru. He was
murdered on June 26th, 1541
Ferdinand Magellan: The
World is round????!!!!!
Ferdinand Magellan, was the first explorer to
(almost) do a full round trip around the
world.
He wanted to find a new route to India,
without sailing towards the east to open a
new commercial route, while proving his
theory that stated that the world was round.
He started his expedition on August 10th,
1519.
He died in 1521in the Philippines without
accomplishing his mission. But 18 of the 250
men that had accompanied him, returned to
Spain through east, proving his theory.
Today this route is known as the Strait of
Magellan.
