• Founded in 2017 by Divya Ravichandran, SKRAP is a startup that
SKRAP provides end-to-end waste management solutions for events and
offices.
• Aim is to build awareness around waste and inspire positive climate
action.
• Organises many events like sustainability workshops,
Waste water
treatment services • Combination of biological, chemical & physical
process
• In the primary treatment, solids are separated
from liquids
• the secondary treatment, where microorganisms
help to remove organic matter and other
substances
• Finally, in the tertiary treatment, the effluent is
disinfected
• becoming treated water, which can then be
discharged into a natural channel
• potential recovery of water, renewable energy and
nutrient from faecal waste
Waste water
treatment services • Primary Treatment
1.Screening 2.Grit Removal 3.Sedimentation
4.Skimming 5.Sludge Removal

• Secondary treatment
1.Activated Sludge Removal 2.Trickling filters
3.RBC(Rotating Biological Contactors)

• Tertiary treatment
1.Filteration
2.Disinfection
3.Nutrient Removal
4.Advanced Oxidation Process(Effective in degrading
(pharmaceuticals ,personal care products ,pesticides,
and other emerging contaminants)
Recycling Processes
• Primary Recycling
 Only materials recovery
 Recycled materials are reused in the same form
• Separation of materials • Secondary Recycling
 Mechanized sorting  Both materials and energy recovery
 Both manual and mechanized sorting  Recycled materials are used for re-manufacturing or to
produce energy
• Conversion of materials
Thermal conversion
(Incineration to recover energy or heat, pyrolysis)
 Biochemical conversion
(Anaerobic digestion, composting, hydrolysis)
Sims Recycling Solutions is the world's largest electrical
and electronics recovery and recycling company. The
company is based in the UK, with operations in 50 locations
on five continents. They process 475,000 tonnes
of electronic waste (e-waste) each year. They are part of
the global recycler, Sims Metal Management Limited
(formerly Sims Group).
Sims Recycling Solutions offers repair, refurbishment and
recycling services for electronic and electrical goods, such
as computers, laptops, televisions, monitors and mobile
devices. From the recycling process Sims recovers materials
such as precious metals, metals, plastic and glass.
The business was established in 1917 by Albert Sims, an
Australian-based recycled metals dealer. In 2002, Sims
Recycling Solutions was started in the UK to address the

• Waste-to-energy plants burn municipal solid waste

(MSW), often called garbage or trash, to produce
steam in a boiler, and the steam is used to power
an electric generator turbine.
Waste to energy in India
It is a start up company which
build schools with blocks made from recycled plastic waste.

Each classroom we build removes 1-2 tons of plastic waste

from the environment and provides a safe, earthquake-resistant
learning environment where children can thrive.

Blocks are Lighter, more resistant, and more flexible than

conventional bricks
India’s First Lypours Manufacturing Plant in Prayagraj

• Prayagraj Power Generation Company Limited

(PPGCL) announced that it has signed an MOU
with ZaaK Technologies GmbH to jointly establish
India's first Lypours pilot manufacturing plant at
PPGCL. Lypours is a sustainable sand material
manufactured through a patented process by
upcycling a wide range of mineral wastes, including
fly ash, pond ash, old-deposited ash, bauxite
residue and is used to produce lightweight
concrete, mortar, plaster, and other building
products
• Lypors is used to produce lightweight concrete,
mortar, plaster, and other building products
Risk factors

1.Contamination: Waste streams can be

contaminated with hazardous materials that can pose risks to
human health and the environment. This can include things like
heavy metals, chemicals, and pathogens.

2.Air and water pollution: Some resource

recovery processes can generate air and water pollution if not
properly managed. For example, waste incineration can release
pollutants like dioxins and furans into the air.

3.Health and safety risks: Workers in

resource recovery facilities can be exposed to hazards like heat
stress, noise, and physical injuries. In addition, communities
located near these facilities may also be at risk of exposure to
pollutants.
Risk factors

4.Technological risks: New and emerging

resource recovery technologies can be untested or unproven,
which can create technical risks such as equipment failure or
operational errors.

5.Financial risks: Resource recovery projects

can be expensive to implement, and there may be financial
risks associated with investing in new technologies or
infrastructure.
6.Social risks: The implementation of resource
recovery programs or facilities can sometimes face
opposition from local communities, due to concerns about
health and safety risks, noise, traffic, or other impacts.
