OF PEOPLE IN NORTHERN MOUNTAINS
 Life is very hard in Northern Mountains
 There are very less facilities of medical,
educational and transport
 They have lack of infrastructure such as roads and
bridges
 During the summer seasons most of the population
depends on agriculture and cattle breeding
 In agriculture also they can only grow
wheat,barley,maize and vegetables
 The main difficult part pf the agriculture is that
they have to grow the crops on small terraced fields
which require heavy and high technology machineries

 In winters they work in cottage industry due to

extreme temperature
 In this they make cargets,emboidered materials,
rug and handicrafts items
 People in northern mountains have low literacy
rate
 Drinking water is scare and malnutrition is also
common

 Western mountains have rugged topography
 Because of rugged topography it is almost impossible to do agriculture
 They do not have facilities of health,eduction and electricity
 They have very limited transportation facilities
 Most of the people here are nomadic herders
 Due to its topography it is very expensive to built facilities of water
 They don not have infrastructure
 Western mountains have mineral under them but due to difficulty in extraction,they
have not been discovered

 Economic activities and life style of people in

Indus is comparatively very easy from the other two
areas
 It have flat land topography which make easy to
provide facilities like medical, educational and
transportation
 It have very advanced infrastructure
 All the urban areas and even some rural areas have
electricity supply
 They also have very good agricultural lands
specially doabs in the upper Indus plain
 Crops in Indus plain is grown all year round on the
fertile land

 Here people have many kinds of jobs

 This means that in the field they are specialize
they can work there
 They have a lot of industries where people can
get job
 They have very good water supply because of
it’s flat land topography

PLATEAU AND SALT RANGE
 Potwar plateau and salt range is very rich in non metallic minerals –
limestone,marble,rock,clays and soapstone
 People can do farming there but it depends on rain because there is not
irrigated canal due to rugged topography
 Crops that can be cultivated are wheat,maize,barley,and grains
 Attock oil refinery is also been set up to refine the oil from the oil fields
 It also provide raw materials to cement, ceramics and chemical
industries.
 Both areas are very productive areas and are very beneficial.

 Life in desert is very tough and it is almost
impossible to survive there.
 The main problem is that there is severe
lack of water and there is no rainfall
 Climate is extremely hot
 People can’t do farming due to erosion of
soil and no fertile soil
 There are no facilities like medical,
educational and transport
