Topic: Soil & Its


Importance
Lesson Objectives: At the end of the lesson students
will be able to:

 Describe the importance of soil to plants and life on


Earth
 Participate during the class discussion and activity.
 Create a pamphlet about soil problem and possible
solutions to the issue.
Materials:

 Pictures of different types of plant : water lily, cactus,


tomato, and banana tree. (Activity)
 PowerPoint Presentation (Abstraction)
 Art Materials : Bond Paper, Colored Paper, Scissors, Glue
(Application)
 Coloring Materials : Crayons, Oil Pastel, Paint
(Application)
Activity. What Do I Need?

 The teacher will divide the class into four (4) groups.
 The teacher will then distribute pictures of plant. (water lily,
cactus, tomato, and banana tree)
 The teacher will ask students to brainstorm a list of items they
think are essential for plant growth. They are given a time limit
of 5 minutes to come up with as many items as possible.
 Once the brainstorming session is complete the teacher will ask
them to identify the most important item for plant growth and
share their ideas in class.
Analysis.

 What essential item did your group focus on the most?


 Why do you think this item is so important?
 Were there any items on the list that you think are often
overlooked but are actually essential for plant growth?
 What impact do you think a lack of any one item on the
list would have on plant growth?
Abstraction.

DISCUSS:
 What is soil and its types: Sand, Loam, Clay, Silt
 The characteristics of the different types of soil (*color,
texture, structure, etc.)
 The functions of soil, and its importance
 The effect of human activities to soil that leads to soil
problem/issue.
Application.

Students will create a pamphlet with soil problems


that occur because of human activities (example:
deforestation, forest fire, work construction,
underground mining)
Students will then show possible solutions to lessen
soil problems.
