Jesus The Ultimate

Trailblazer
Series #4
Jesus and the
Centurion
Matthew 8:5-13; Luke 7:1-10
HOW IS JESUS A TRAILBLAZER
IN MISSIONS?
Jesus demonstrates His uniqueness
not only in words, but also through
His actions/deeds. He comes with
power into people’s lives and
transforms them.
Why does Matthew emphasize
the healing miracles?
He is reminding us that the kingdom of
heaven is not just a matter of words, but
also a matter of deeds.

Jesus does not just bring saving words;

He also performs saving actions.
The centurion cares for and loves his servant
so much so that when he hears of Jesus, he
sends to see if Jesus will come.

When Jesus is on the way, the centurion, not

believing that he is worthy of Jesus, sends
and acknowledges that Jesus does not even
have to come but merely say the word, and
his servant will be healed.
This miracle reminds us of
the difference Jesus
makes in the lives of
people:
1. People will never be the same again.

When we encounter Jesus, we will be changed

from the inside out.

Like in this story, our sicknesses and diseases are

healed, and the homes that have been torn apart
in physical and emotional distress are now
brought to know the peace that comes from God.
Jesus is the only one who
can change us and heal our
souls and give us peace with
God.
2. People from the east to the west
(Gentiles) are part of the Kingdom of
God. (Matt. 8:11)

Jesus, being the author and perfecter of

our faith, marveled at the faith of this
centurion.
The centurion was one of the most unlikely
persons to amaze Jesus:
 He was a Gentile.
 He had a pagan upbringing.
 He was a Roman, stationed in Palestine to
subject the Jews to the Emperor's rule.
 He was a man of war.
The faith of the centurion was, a foreshadow of
the conversion of the Gentiles, and a preface to
their adoption into the church.

They shall come from the east and from the

west; places far distant from each other; and yet
they shall all meet at the right hand of Christ.
This centurion is also a reminder to us that
"man looks on the outward appearance, but
the Lord looks on the heart" (1 Samuel
16:7).
How did the Centurion have that
“FAITH”?

He had a clear understanding of the truth:

 He knew who Jesus is and what Jesus could do
to his situation (Luke 7:3).
 He was a godly man (Luke 7:4-5).
 He trusted Jesus (Luke 7:7-8).
General Truths:

1. The narrative of Jesus’ action carries the

powerful message that He truly cares for
people, and He is not afraid to get involved
in helping them, whatever the risk.
General Truths:

2. The mission of the disciples—then and

now—is to do what Jesus did: to go into the
midst of human sickness, conflict, and fear,
and do everything possible to help. The
same Holy Spirit who empowered Jesus will
empower those who go in His name.
General Truths:

3. Rising above the whole mission of the

disciples is the assurance that the power
of Jesus triumphs over diseases, sin, and
death—over the forces of nature and the
sinister evils of the spiritual realm.
That in the name of Jesus and in His
power, the mission cannot fail!

As we faithfully obey the Lord, and

as we faithfully share the message
of salvation, success is sure.
Kung ganoon, ano ang pumipigil sa
atin upang mag share ng Gospel?

 Natatakot tayo na ma-reject?

 Nahihiya tayo sa tao baka magkamali
tayo ng sasabihin?
 Natatakot baka tanungin tayo at hindi
natin alam ating isasagot?
“Success in witnessing is
simply taking the initiative
to share Christ in the power
of the Holy Spirit and leaving
the results to God.”
All we need is compassion
for the lost.

Just like Jesus.
