After this lesson, students will be able to:

 Define the term “genre”


 Explain and discuss the different types of genre
 List characteristics of specific literary genres
 Be able to show understanding about the literary
genre
 Can create their own genre stories
LEARNING ACTIVITIES OF
GRADE 7 STUDENTS in Literary Genre

“NAME THAT GENRE”

Activity Time Span: 1 hour & 30 minutes


Instruction:
before I proceed to my activity, I will first discuss the literary genres
and explain them one by one. Then I will give a little definition of the word
Genre. Then I will discuss the different types of genres.
After it has explained everything, I will present a literary genre related activity
entitled “ NAME THAT GENRE’

What is Genre?
What are the different types of genre?
GENRE:

Is a category of literary composition genres may be determined


by literary technique, tone, content, or event length. They move generally move
from more abstract, encompassing classes, which are then further
sub-divided into more concrete distinctions.

LITERARY TYPES OF GENRE:


 Fantasy
 Mystery
 Science Fiction
 Historical Fiction
 Comedy
 Romance
 Horror
 Fantasy –is something you imagine, which might involve, dragons, unicorn, princesses,
and imaginary best friends. Fantasy is a dream imagination.
 Mystery – something not understand or beyond understanding . A piece of fiction dealing
usually with the solution of a mysterious crime.
 Science Fiction – is a form of fiction that deals principally with the impact of actual or imagined
science upon society or individuals.
 Historical Fiction – is a literary genre where the story takes place in the past.
 Comedy – is a genre of fiction that consists of discourse or
works intended to humorous or amusing, including laughter.
 Romance – is a popular category of books or movie that consistently churns
out bestsellers and more reviews. Example od this genre is love story.
 Horror - is a genre of literature , film and television that is meant to scare, startle, shock,
and even repulse audiences.

this activity is a quick and easy game that students can play with
their classmates every time we discuss literary genres. Through
this activity, it can help students with their comprehension
and analysis because it helps students understand the film or the stories
better. To sum up, this activity can help learners develop their ability to
effectively process and comprehend a wide range of text.
Direction: Instruct students to identify and
name that genre after
they watch some of the movie clips
I’ve given. After they watch all the
Movie clips, they should answer the
given question and they will
name the genre of each movie.

1. Which genre can involve a crime or other event that isn’t figured out until the end?
2. Which genre is made up story that can involve magic, talking animals or other worlds?
Summary & Conclusion

Genre is been part of our life without this , we cannot understand


what we have watched and we’ve have read.
Teaching genres improves students confidence
when it comes to responding to prompts..
Genre allows also to know what kind of film they
are going to see and what
they can expect when going to see a film.
