• It means making conscious decisions and taking actions that will reduce our carbon footprint
and mitigate the effects of climate change. Planetary protection requires shared responsibility
and action from all levels of society to help achieve Sustainable Development Goals. 
WHY WE SHOULD INVEST IN
OUR PLANET?
• The Earth is contending with converging environmental crises that are inextricably linked and
compounding: climate change and the accelerating destruction of our natural ecosystems.
Environmental conservation and restoration are not mere responsibilities but an opportunity to
create a better future for ourselves and for generations to come. Investing in our planet means
making conscious decisions and taking actions that will reduce our carbon footprint and
mitigate the effects of climate change.
WHAT CAN WE DO TO
INVEST IN OUR PLANET?
• Conserve our trees: Stand against deforestation and reduce your paper use to help fight climate
change.

Support our pollinators: Plant native flowers, trees, and bushes to help pollinators like bees and
bats who pollinate our food crops. This also provides a habitat for other local wildlife.
• Compost: Recycle organic matter in your home or backyard, or find a composting service in
your area.

Reduce plastic use: Did you know that plastic bags can live up to 1,000 years at a landfill?
Switch to reusable bags.
• Protect our wildlife: Visit and support wildlife refuges, parks, and organizations, such as the
Cornell Wildlife Health Center and many others, working to conserve our planet’s biodiversity
and maintain healthy ecosystems.
