EARTH
22 APRIL 2024
DAY
HISTORIC
REVIEW
Since 1970, April 22nd marks the official
celebration of Earth Day, a day to reflect on the
movement towards a greener, more sustainable
future and to raise awareness of the need to
protect Earth’s natural resources for future
generations.
HERE ARE SOME
WAYS
YOU CAN
HONOUR
THE EARTH
ON EARTH
Hands on DAY!
for a better world!
BECOME A
WASTE
WARRIOR
The number of garbage trucks filled each
year would stretch halfway to the moon.
Before you throw something away, think
about whether it can be recycled or
repurposed. You can also limit waste by
reducing the amount of things you buy.
Plant a tree
Researchers estimate that 15 billion trees in
the world are cut down each year, so you can
help offset that loss by planting a tree. Trees
absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen for
people to breathe. They also provide shelter
and food for animals. Their shade can even
reduce the need for
air-conditioning in hotter months.
TURN
OFF
THE
Electricity comes from fossil fuels (such as

LIGHTS
coal, oil, or natural gas) that contribute to
climate change. But electricity can also be
made from renewable sources like wind,
water, and the sun!
Try conserving electrical energy by using
only what you need.
LIMIT
YOUR
WATER
Clean, drinkable water is a limited

USAGE
resource. Less than 1% of the water on
Earth can be used by humans, the rest is
either too salty or too difficult to access.
Turning off the faucet when you brush
your teeth can conserve up to 30 litres of
water a day.
PLASTIC
POLLUTI
ON
Every year, 8.8 million tons of single-use
plastic ends up in the ocean: grocery bags,
drink bottles, straws, food wrappers, and
plastic packaging. Avoid using straws,
drink from a reusable plastic bottle and use
cloth bags to go to the supermarket.
NOW
FOR
SOME
Year 9 - stories of the earth
We are celebrating our dear planet! Compose
a short story celebrating Earth Day,
highlighting the beauty and importance of our
planet. Craft your narrative through the eyes
of a character who deeply appreciates the
wonders of nature and the importance of
environmental stewardship.
Year 10 - What can I reduce?
SMALL SACRIFICES, BIG
IMPACT: REDUCING WASTE IN
OUR DAILY LIVES
Reflect on your daily routines at home and
school to identify areas where you can make
small sacrifices to reduce waste. Consider the
products you use, the resources you consume,
and the habits you practice. Develop a plan
outlining specific actions you will take to
minimize your environmental footprint and
contribute to a more sustainable future.
BE AN EARTH
WARRIOR!
TAKE THE PLEDGE! Earth Day Pledge:
"I pledge to protect our planet every day. I'll
reduce, reuse, recycle, and advocate for
sustainability.
Together, we can make a difference for Earth's
future."
