The word “politics” comes from the Greek
word “polis” which means “city-state.”

In the ancient world, city-states are small


countries regarded as centers of culture and
civilization.
POLITICS
Politics is the science of government that
deals with the government and regulation,
maintenance and development, and defense
and augmentation of the state. 
• R.G. Getlel defined,
“Political Science as a study of state in the past,
present and future and of Political institutions
and Political theories”.

DEFINITION “Political Science begins and ends with the
state”
• Aristotle said
“Man by nature is a political animal,” 
• A group of people who runs the country and
controls all the activities of the state.
• Political System by which a country
or community is regulated by laws.
• Major Functions:
1. Managing government, i.e. running the state
(and its affairs);

policy-formation
