To find the area of the figure, you do these:


 Area of rectangle A = 8 cm x 4cm = 32 square cm (sq. cm)
 Area of square B = 4 cm x 4 cm = 16 sq. cm
 Add the areas = 32 + 16 = 48 sq. cm
