METHOD OF BUSBAR DESIGNATION

• THE DESIGNATIONS OF AC AND DC BUSBARS IN AIRCRAFT


ARE AS FOLLOWS:
□ AC BUSES ARE DESIGNATED 'XP' PRECEDED BY A NUMBER.
• EXAMPLE: 1XP, 2XP (FROM ENGINE 1) 3XP, 4XP (FROM
ENGINE 2)
□ DC BUSES ARE DESIGNATED 'PP' PRECEDED BY A NUMBER.
• EXAMPLE: 1 PP (FROM ENGINE 1) 2PP (FROM ENGINE 2)
• THE BUSBAR NUMBERING SYSTEM MAY VARY FROM
AIRCRAFT MANUFACTURER TO MANUFACTURER.

• TO FIGURE 3 THESE ARE SYSTEMS THAT ARE POWERED DIRECTLY FROM THE
AIRCRAFT BATTERY.
• THEY CAN NOT BE SWITCHED OFF UNLESS THE BATTERY IS DISCONNECTED

• THE BATTERY BUS IS SUPPLIED WITH POWER EITHER FROM THE AIRCRAFT
BATTERIES, THE EXTERNAL POWER CONNECTOR OR THE GENERATORS.

ESSENTIAL BUS BAR

• THIS BUS IS DEFINED BY ITS NAME. IT IS ALWAYS SUPPLIED AS LONG AS ANY


POWER SUPPLY IS SWITCHED ON (BATTERIES, GENERATORS OR GROUND
POWER).

• THIS BUS CAN BE FED FROM : □ GENERATORS □ BATTERIES □ EXTERNAL POWER.


• FROM THIS BUS, SYSTEMS WITH A LOWER PRIORITY THAN THOSE SUPPLIED BY THE
ESSENTIAL BUS ARE POWERED VIA BUSES 4PP AND 3PP.
• FUSES IN THE LINE BETWEEN 1PP AND 4PP (AND BETWEEN 1 PP AND 3PP) ARE USED
TO PROTECT THE BUS 1 PP.

• THIS BUS IS POWERED FROM GENERATORS, BATTERIES OR EXTERNAL POWER.


• IT SUPPLIES AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS THROUGH 5PP (BUS 2) AND THE NON-ESSENTIAL BUS
6PP.

• Inverter Busbars (1XP, 3XP) A typical static inverter has 2 outputs,


one output is 115 VAC/400 Hz, single phase.

• Inverter Busbars (2XP, 4XP) The second output from a typical


static inverter is 26 V AC

• THE GENERATORS ARE CONTROLLED VIA AN 'ON' - 'OFF' - 'RESET SWITCH


• THE 'RESET' POSITION IS USED TO RESET THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR, IF
THERE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

• THE 'BATT 1' AND 'BATT 2' SWITCHES CONNECT OR DISCONNECT THE BATTERIES TO THE
AIRCRAFT ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.
• THE 'EXT' (EXTERNAL POWER) MASTER SWITCH OPERATES THE EXTERNAL POWER RELAY WHEN
THE LIVE EXTERNAL POWER UNIT IS PLUGGED INTO THE AIRCRAFT
