Our Locations
Nippon Paint has been providing innovative solutions in the
paint and coatings industry since the brand was established in
1881, when production first started in Japan.
In 1962, NPHD and Wuthelam signed a joined venture
agreement which saw the establishment of the first factory in
Singapore.
In 2021, NIPSEA Group is 100% wholly owned by Nippon Paint
Holdings. This agreement will bring the 60 years partnership to
perfection and build a strong foundation for accelerated growth.

A/F (Antifouling Paint System)

CHAPTER
What is Antifouling (A/F) Paint
Antifouling (A/F) Paint
A variety of organisms such as barnacles and mussels, and
algae such as blue-green laver and seaweed attach to the
bottoms of ships.

The adhesion of these organisms to the bottom of the ship Slime


increases the frictional resistance of the ship, which in turn
reduces the ship's speed, increases fuel consumption and
increases the load on the main engine. Barnacles

For this reason, antifouling paints are applied to the bottom of


ships to prevent the adhesion of these organisms. 

Antifouling paints are effective in preventing the adhesion of Algae – Green Weed

Working Flow of TSR for New
STEP 1
Building
Before Starting the New Building Project
Check painting specification & building schedule. Participate in kick-off meeting with owner’s superintendent and shipyard representative, etc.

Shop Priming
STEP 2 In the process of primary surface preparation, priming and after priming, TSR to check various conditions both on the steel substrates and painting equipment to meet the
qualification standards and to prevent paint defects.

Secondary Surface Preparation by Sand Blasting & Power Tool Cleaning


STEP 3 Check the blast cleaned surface condition in accordance with different industrial standards or PSPC rules (for water ballast tanks).
If the surface condition does not match with the standards, TSR to give advice to shipyard representative to correct it.

Block Stage Painting


STEP 4 TSR to ensure the quality of paint film, inspecting and checking various items from the 1 st coat to subsequent coats and making coating records/reports.
If, for example, the coated film condition does not meet with painting spec, TSR to give advice to shipyard representative to correct that.

Pre-Launching
STEP 5 From surface preparation to the final A/F or finish coat, TSR will check coating time, climatic condition, paint consumption, DFT etc. and make a daily process report.
TSR to check and give advice to ensure the quality of surface condition as well as coated film condition.

Quay Stage
STEP 6 TSR’s task is similar to those of block stage and pre-launching stage. Yet, this time, remained or damaged area on exposed area, accommodation, outfitting, cargo holds, hatch
cover/coaming, E/R and all of tanks etc. should be properly prepared and painted.

Delivery
STEP 7 Gathered records and painting reports to be handed over to TSR manager(internal) or shipyard representative(external) respectively.
Working Flow of TSR for M&R
Before Dock in
STEP 1 Check the contents of paint spec. and number of supply paints. Check the contents of last DD report with internal report. Confirm the docking time of the vessel with shipyard. Make
a draft coating schedule with over-coating interval.

Dock in
STEP 2 Greet the customers, discuss the paint spec. and collect the information such as voyage and activity of the vessel.
Greet the PIC of shipyard to discuss the required paint spec.

Dry up
STEP 3 Before dry up – Record the dock in time / Meeting with shipyard’s PIC for paint spec. / Check the sea stock paints on board for sales activities.
After dry up – Inspect the fouling condition at underwater area and record it.
High Pressure Fresh Water Washing & Surface Preparation
STEP 4 Observe H.P.F.W.W whether fouling can be removed. / Conduct the salinity test after H.P.F.W.W.
Surface Preparation – Propose the best way to ship’s owner and confirm the preparation grade whether it’s based on specifications. If the preparation grade is
below specification’s standard, ask shipyard to correct.
Painting with Anti-corrosive paint & Topcoat
STEP 5 Checking on the paint film surface whether it adhered any contaminations and conducting the ambient conditions before painting. If any defects are observed,
inform to shipyard’s PIC. During the painting process, check the condition of paint and whether it’s applied under the proper conditions. After painting, check
whether the specified film thickness is kept and whether any coating has been forgotten, and if so, ask corrective action.
Painting with Anti-fouling paint
STEP 6 Execution items before painting are same as above. As for the application of AF, conducting the volume area control of AF distribution is important. Therefore,
the sketch of the AF volume area control shall be submitted to shipyard in advance. And it should be observed the application of AF with over coating interval whether it is
conducting accordingly.
Final Inspection & Dock out
STEP 7 Once all process are completed, a final inspection is conducted with the ship’s owner and the shipyard’s PIC. Checks the remaining paints and paints on board.
And then greets to the ship’s owner. After that, makes the painting completion reports.
