Radio In The

UK
By Nicole Forber
BBC National Radio

BBC National radio is broadcasted all over the

united kingdom and has been present and
around since 1922. The national radio stations
of BBC are BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 live are
all available through the analogue radio as
well as on DAB Digital Radio and BBC Sounds.
DAB means Digital Audio Broadcasting they
transmit through waves around the country
which is important because it is a national
radio station.
BBC Regional And Local Radio
BBC Regional And Local Radio works the same way as BBC National Radio, the
license fee that people pay covers the radio stations. The BBC Regional And
Local Radio serves regional and local communities

The BBC Regional And Local Radio- The local side of the radio serves the
community, areas like Merseyside and Manchester. The Regional part of the radio
station covers certain regions in the UK, you can only listen depending on which
geographical area you are currently in at that moment.
National Commercial Radio
National Commercial Radio is funded through
profit and are ran by big radio stations some are
owed by global who owes a range of radio
stations. National commercial radios are funded by
advertisements and promotions.They get money
from advertisements. These type of radios have
much more freedom over what they can play over
the radio at any given times as they have adverts
and different sponsorships throughout playing the
radio.
Local Commercial Radio
Local Commercial Radio stations are aimed at the local communities serve their interests.
This serves smaller areas, such as cities and towns. These are funded by adverts and
sponsorships so the radio can run freely by adding music and different types of news whilst
still advertising other businesses. Normally radio stations like these are sister station of a
bigger national radio station in which it is owed by.
Community Radio
The community radio serves the local interests which results in them being dependent on the
interaction of the community.
The community radio stations broadcast local issues and help inspire the public. This radio station
is usually run by volunteers or could sometimes possibly be ran by a variety of charities. Local
Commercial radio is funded through adverts and sponsorships so that the radio can run freely by
adding music and news. The point of the local commercial radio is to serve smaller audiences that
live local to the radio station. For example, Lymm Radio.
Target Audience

A target audiences definition is know as a specific target type of audience for a certain
media. All media products have target audiences however this does not exclude others from
watching/listening to these type of things if it interests them.
Scheduling
A specific time that a programme is aired or broadcasted. It is important as it affects the
content on the programmes.
For example, the content of a breakfast radio show could potentially have a younger
audiences listening as people going to work, school run and travelling but not potentially
for them so the content of a breakfast show have to consider that it may not be suitable
for them. This means that they have to consider that anyone could be listening.

However scheduling late at night after 9pm when the watershed is, the younger audiences
are in bed. Therefore these contents should differ as throughout the day children may be
listening and therefore the radio should keep this in mind however the radio after 9pm can
be as mature and discuss more topics as it would be more appropriate because children
should be in bed.
