ATTRIBUTE GAGE

R&R
An Overview
Definition
• An attribute gage study is a study that examines the bias and
repeatability of an attribute measurement system.
• Applicable for Go/No gage.
Definitions:
Kappa Value: Cohen's kappa coefficient is a statistic that is used to measure inter-rater reliability for
qualitative items. It is generally thought to be a more robust measure than simple percent agreement
calculation, as κ takes into account the possibility of the agreement occurring by chance.

• Kappa ranges from -1 to 1.

• A general rule of thumb is that values of kappa greater than 0.75 indicate good to excellent agreement
(with a maximum kappa = 1)
• Values les than 0.40 indicate poor agreement."
• Effectiveness: The ability to accurately detect conforming and
nonconforming parts. This is calculated from 0 to 1,where 1 is perfect.
• Miss Rate: This refers to a situation when decision is ok for rejection
part.
• Fales Alarm Rate: This refers to a situation when decision is rejected
for ok part.

Procedure
• Select the GO/No Gage whose Attribute R&R have to be studied.
• Select at least 30 samples whose values are measured with the
variable gage.
• If the value is in specification limit, then the sample is termed as
“OK”. Otherwise it is “NOK”.
• Select at least 2 appraiser & each part have to be measured 3
times.
• Measurement system should be randomize to avoid bias.
