Biomes PQE
Date: 3/02/2022 & 7/02/2022
Topic: Biomes PQE
EQ: Where are biomes located?
Sources
Source: Oxford 2.1 (map) and 1.4 (PQE
Analysis)
Task 1:
a) Read the information provided about the PQE Analysis Method on p19 textbook.
b) Copy this information into your INB (left page) making sure you have an explanation of
each stage (Pattern, Quantify and Exceptions)
c) Highlight 5-10 key words in your notes to clarify what you need to do when analysing a
source (map or graph) using the PQE method
PQE Analysis is used to describe patterns in visual sources (normally graphs and maps)
It is very useful when starting a geography research project because PQE analysis allows
you to identify general rules (patterns) and exceptions to the rules – the next logical
question a researcher would ask themselves is why the pattern exists (and why some
exceptions don’t fit the patterns)
You will need to know how to apply PQE analysis – more information Is found in chapter
1.4
Task 2:
On right page INB, copy the following table and complete it using the map on page 43 of your textbook
This task requires you to analyse a map using the PQE method in order to describe the spatial
distribution of biomes (where they are located)
Try to describe locations in terms of latitude (distance from equator) and/or distance
inland (distance from coast)
Task 3- Conclusion
a) Wherever you have room, copy Source 1 on page 42 – this summarises the main factors
that influence where biomes are located (climate – temperature & rainfall)
