• The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) .
• . The first known case was identified in Wuhan, China, in December
2019.
•  The disease quickly spread worldwide, resulting in the COVID-19
pandemic.
STRUCTURE OF CORONA VIRUS

THE STRUCTURAL PROTEINS OF

CORONA VIRUS INCLUDES THE
FOLLOWING :-
• Membrane glycoprotein (M)
• Envelope protein (E)
• Nucleocapsid protein (N)
• Spike glycoprotein (S).
ORIGIN

•  The novelvirus was first identified from an outbreak in Wuhan,

China. Attempts to contain failed, allowing the virus to spread to
other areas of Asia and later worldwide. The World Health
Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak a public health
emergency of international concern on 30 January 2020 and a
pandemic on 11 March 2020.
• The first cases of COVID-19 in India were reported in three towns
of Kerala, among three Indian medical students who had returned
from Wuhan, the epicenter of the pandemic
IMPORTANT DATES

• The first known outbreak of covid 19 was on November , 2019 in

Wuhan, Hubei , China.
• The first case of Covid 19 in India was on January 27, 2020.
• The first discovered the first human corona virus in 1965.
SYMPTOMS
• Common symptoms
include coughing, fever, loss of
smell (anosmia)
and taste (ageusia).
• Less common ones
include headaches, nasal
congestion and runny nose, muscle
pain, sore throat, diarrhea, eye
irritation, and toes swelling or
turning purple.
MODE OF TRANSMISSION

• COVID-19 is mainly
transmitted when people breathe in
air contaminated by
droplets/aerosols and small
airborne particles containing the
virus. Infected people exhale those
particles as they breathe, talk,
cough, sneeze, or sing.
VARIANTS OF CORONA VIRUS
• Alpha variant – This version was first found in UK on May 2020 it
spreads more quickly.
• Beta variant – This version was first found in South Africa on
August 2020 it Spreads more easily and some vaccines may be less
effective against it.
• Gamma variant – This version was first found in Brazil on
November 2020 it spreads more easily and some vaccines may be
less effective against it.
VARIANTS OF CORONA VIRUS

• Delta variant – This version was first found in India on October 2020 it
spreads more easily. Symptoms may present differently .May decrease
vaccine efficiency .Still protects against severe disease.
• Omicron variant – It was first found on November 2021 studies show that
it spreads more easily.
VACCINE
Vaccines available for people 18 or above are Covishield ,
Sputnik V etc.
Vaccine available for people 15 or above is Covaxin.
