I N T R O D U C T I O N

- Community safety and crime prevention are crucial concerns for governments and societies
worldwide. Ensuring the well-being of citizens and protecting them from criminal activities are
fundamental responsibilities of law enforcement agencies. The presence of police in the community
plays a significant role in deterring crime, increasing public trust, and fostering a sense of security
among residents.

-The goal of community safety is to make communities feel safe. You must feel secure no matter
where you go to eat, sleep, or relax. There are various ways you can contribute to enhancing local
community safety.

-The prevention and detection of crime, and the performance of other services need to be
systematically examined. Patrols of this type usually have five goals: deterrence of crime,
apprehension of criminals, and satisfaction of public demands for services unrelated to crime,
development of a sense of security and confidence in the law enforcement agency, and recovery of
stolen property. The prime purpose of a patrol has been to maintain the security of the area of
barangay such as Barangay Poblacionand to act as a crime deterrent.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of police visibility in crime
prevention strategies in Barangay Poblacion, Iligan City. Specifically, it aims to assess the
current level of police visibility in Barangay Poblacion and its alignment with crime prevention
efforts;
determine the effectiveness of the police visibility patrol implemention for in Brgy. Poblacion and
to determine law enforcement agencies' challenges and limitations in maintaining adequate
police visibility also to propose recommendations to enhance police visibility and improve crime
prevention strategies in Barangay Poblacion.
S C O P E A N D D E L I M I TAT I O N S

This study focuses specifically on evaluating the impact of police visibility in crime prevention
strategies in Barangay Poblacion, Iligan City. The research will involve data collection from
various sneed for more including crime statistics, surveys, interviews, and observations.
However, it is essential to acknowledge certain limitations, such as the availability and reliability
of crime data, potential biases in survey responses, and the generalizability of findings to other
communities or contexts.
This study will use an explanatory-correlational design with an adapted questionnaire as a
data gathering tool for the 100 randomly selected respondents. This study will employ a mixed-
methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of crime statistics and surveys with
qualitative data from interviews and observations. The theoretical framework will guide the
analysis of the data, allowing for an examination of the relationship between police visibility and
crime rates, as well as community perceptions of safety and the challenges law enforcement
agencies face in maintaining effective visibility.

The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on crime
prevention and police visibility. By evaluating the impact of police visibility in Barangay
Poblacion, Iligan City, this research will provide valuable insights to local law enforcement
agencies, policymakers, and community leaders. The study's outcomes can assist in evidence-
based decision-making, resource allocation, and the development of effective crime prevention
strategies. Furthermore, the research will benefit the residents of Barangay Poblacion by
enhancing their safety and overall quality of life. Understanding community members’
perceptions regarding police visibility will help foster trust, collaboration, and cooperation
between law enforcement agencies and the residents they serve.
METHODOLOGY

This chapter outlines the research methodology to achieve the objectives of the study. The
methodology encompasses the research design, research site, data gathering instruments and
process, data analysis method, and research ethics.

A mixed methods approach will be utilized in this study to obtain a comprehensive


understanding of the research objectives. Quantitative methods will be employed to gather
socio-demographic information, assess the current level of police visibility, and measure the
effectiveness of police visibility patrols.

Qualitative methods will be used to identify community members’ perceptions and gather
insights into law enforcement agencies' challenges and limitations. Interviews and focus group
discussions will be used in this study to identify community members’ perceptions and gather
insights into the challenges and limitations faced by law enforcement agencies.
R E S E A RC H S I TE

This study will be conducted at Barangay Poblacion, Iligan City. Poblacion is situated at
approximately 8.2285, 124.2344, in the island of Mindanao. Evaluation at these coordinates is
estimated at 3.9 meters or 12.8 feet above mean sea level. Its population as determined by the
2020 Census was 3,613. This represented 1.00% of the total population of Iligan. The
researchers chose this place where the study will be conducted because Police Station 5 is
situated in the barangay.
DATA GATHERING METHOD:
INSTRUMENT AND PROCESS

A two-part adapted survey questionnaire validated by the adviser will be used as its main data
gathering instrument. Part I will be designed to generate information about the respondents' socio-
demographic profile, including age, gender, and marital status. Part II will be intended to generate
information to assess the current level of police visibility in Barangay Poblacion. The questionnaire
will include items related to the frequency of police patrols, response time to reported incidents, and
community members’ perception of police presence. Further, this will be administered to measure
the effectiveness of police visibility patrols regarding respect to police,safety and security, and trust
in the police. Likert scale will be used to measure the responses.

On the other hand, semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions will be conducted to
gather community members’ perceptions regarding the effectiveness of police visibility in ensuring
safety. Interviews will be conducted with key personnel from law enforcement agencies to explore
the challenges and limitations faced in maintaining adequate police visibility. The interviews and
focus group discussions (FGD) will be audio recorded and transcribed verbatim.
