Instructions
1. Please go to Slide 2 and right click on the graph. Then select, “Edit
Data in Excel”.
2. For each category, please score them from 0 to 10, with 0 meaning
that you have no such need and a 10 for a strong need.
3. If you are unsure of what each category represents, please refer to
Slide 3 for further explanation.
4. For the “Other” category, feel free to add one that is most relevant for
you.

Further Explanation
• Biological needs: material and energy needed for survival and subsistence (ex. Nutrients, oxygen, water,
physical activity etc.)
• Physical safety: need for shelter, law enforcement, sense of security, control, predictability
• Physical comfort: need for physical security which can be different for everyone (ex. Air conditioning,
well-designed environment, etc.)
• Pleasure: sensation, desire (ex. Sexual), ecstasy
• Sense of self: esteem, identity, autonomy, expression, efficacy, etc.
• Achievement: fulfillment, mastery, etc.
• Self-Actualization: an extension of self-expression, spiritual quest, transcendence, etc.
• Connection: affiliation, intimacy, belonging, community, identity, etc.
• Cognitive need for order: making sense of and ascribe meaning to one’s experience, need for
information/knowledge, etc.
• Emotional needs: need for emotional caring or support from others
