HYPOTHESIS
It is a tentative explanation for certain
behaviors, phenomena, or events which
have occurred or will occur.
It is the most specific statement of the
problem.
CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD
HYPOTHESIS
A good hypothesis is researchable.
Relationship between variables should be
stated in definite terms
It should be testable
It should follow the findings of previous
studies
FUNCTIONS OF HYPOTHESIS
It introduces researchers thinking at the
start of the study.
It structures the next stages or procedures
of the study.
It helps provide the format for the
presentation, analysis, and interpretation
of the data in the thesis.
TWO TYPES OF HYPOTHESIS
Null Hypothesis
Alternative Hypothesis
NULL HYPOTHESIS (H0)
It means no existence of an effect, an interaction
of relationships, or differences.
It states the exact opposite of what an
investigator or an experimenter predicts or expects
defines the statement which states that there is
no exact or actual relationship between the
variables.
HOW TO STATE THE RESULT OF A
NULL HYPOTHESIS?
Reject the null hypothesis
Failed to reject the null hypothesis
Note: never use the words “accept the null hypothesis”
Example:
Ho: There is no significant difference on the perceptions between
pre service trainees and of Teachers Education Program among top
three Teacher education Institutions in Metro Manila.
 
Alternative Hypothesis (Ha or H1)
It is considered the operational statement of the
research hypothesis

Example:
Ha: There is significant difference on the perceptions between
pre-service trainees and of Teachers Education Program among
top three Teacher education Institutions in Metro Manila
 
HYPOTHESIS TESTING
refers to the process of making inferences or
educated guesses about a particular population
is the proposed answer to a question or problem
that can be verified or rejected through testing
can be done using statistics and data, or on the
basis of an uncontrolled observational study
