POLITICAL POWER
• It is the ability to held individuals and groups
in a society that allows them to create and
enforce policies for the community and manage
public resources.
• It is the ability to influence the behavior of
others with or without resistance by using a
variety of tactics to push or prompt an action.
FOUR KEY ELEMENTS

LEGITIMACY SOVEREIGNTY
1. POWER
• It is the ability to get someone to do
something he/she wants to accomplish, thus
making things happen in the way he/she
wants.
• Power is also the possession of authority and
influence over other and control someone's
mind.
• It is the ability to influence and direct the
behavior of other poeple and guide the course
and outcomes of events.
EXAMPLE
An advocate expressing his/her
disappointment to the government.
2. AUTHORITY

• It means that an individual or group


has the right to use power by making
decisions, giving orders, and
demanding obedience.
EXAMPLE
The classroom officers initiates a major
project for the classroom.

A manager has the authority to revise


employees' work schedules based on
the needs of the company.
3. LEGITIMACY

• It refers to citizens' belief that their


leaders have the right to exercise
power and authority; it is the
acceptance of the government by
the governed.
• It is the formal authority given to a
person within an organization.
EXAMPLE
A manager in a work environment has
legitimate leadership power to instruct
team members on how to approach
projects and workflow.
4. SOVEREIGNTY
• It is the highest exercise of political power; it
is supreme and ultimate authority that cannot
be overruled by a higher power.
• Sovereignty gives a nation's government the
absolute authority to do what they can to
govern within their nation's boundaries.
EXAMPLE
A king who can rule his people without
any interference from other countries.
