INTRODUCTION
 A panel discussion is a public exchange of
ideas, giving experts and audience members
the chance to discuss a particular topic. Panel
discussions are often used into politics,
issues affecting communities, and academic
topics.
DEFINITION
 It is a discussion in which few persons carry
on conversation in front of the audience
 At the end of discussion audience also

participates
 The audience put important questions and
the experts answers them and clarify the
points
ORIGIN
 Panel discussion technique was originated by
HERRY IN 1929
PURPOSE
 Purpose of the penal discussion is to
reproduce the features of a small discussion
group for the benefit of a large group
TIME DURATION
 The ideal length for a panel discussion is 45
minutes to one hour..

 Some members may dominate
 There is possibility to splits the group in two

subgroups
 If panelists belong to different groups, it may

not create appropriate learning situation


HOW TO ORGANIZE EFFECTIVE
PANEL DISCUSSIONS
 There should be a rehearsal before actual panel
discussions
 The moderator should be a matured person and
should have the full understanding of theme/
problem & should have full control over the
situation
 The sitting arrangement should be such that every
one should be of equal distance & should observe
each other
 The moderator should encourage constructive
discussion among panelists &audience
