Introduction:
First of All, if we make sketch that what was relation of
Pakistan with Afghanistan, then overall we see that
Pak-Afghan Relations was not too good. However,
Afghanistan is an Islamic Country and Pakistan also. The
relation with Pak-afghan was not too good or not bad.
So Let’s see why Pak-Afghan relation could not well. (on
map).The border of Afghanistan of length 2250KM with
Pakistan, this border is called Durand-Line.
Before Independence:
• Sir Motived Divan sketch this line in 1893 for the separation
of Sub-continent and Afghanistan.
• If we thing about the Pak-Afghan relations, then when the
independence of Pakistan is 1947. Then the big issue
between Pakistan and Afghanistan showed like a Durned-
Line. When we thing before independence of Pakistan then
so many issues of this line. Then after this we say that ,
Durned-Line is the big issue of Pakistan and Afghanistan that
is why the relation between pak and afghan not too well.
Before Independence:
• Even Hamid Karzai also said that the Province of Sarhad is
the place of hateness between Pak and Afghan. He said that
if this place not available then the relation of Pak and Afghan
can be Good. If We say before Independence, then we see
the kabaili-Alaqa-jat(KPK) or the region of KPK from region
Atak Pul where area of Pakhton as well as well as area of
pakhton also in Afghanistan. The common thing between
them is Culture. They share the common culture. They did
not even thing that we are Pakistani or Afghanistani.
Before Independence:
• They said them Pakhtun in this region. They established a
separate Identity in this region. British had a big issue from
this region. Afghanstani had come in Hindustan. When the
concept of Borders not established and east India company
was looted the People. So British had made development in
this region for the purpose of resources of this place. So
British Made this line with help of MIR-ABDUR-REHMAN.
Then they separated the Afghanistan and Hindustan. Then
british tried to make the railway line in this place but the
homies of this place did not accept this plan of british.
 Before Independence:
• They think that border could not seperate us We are just
Pakhtons. They did not accept this. Then they started a
resistance against British. Then the Gorila war also started in
this place that is why development was not created in this
area. Now a days 2023 this is also a backward area of
Pakistan. There are no facilities of education, Medical and
others because they are not accept that we are Pakistani but
they thing that we are Pakhtons. Even here campaign also
run from the Pakhtunistan with the help of Walli Khan.
• Because the homies of Pakhton also not wanted for the
Pakistan. They wanted Sub-continent(Mushtarka-
HinduStan). So initialy, the relation of Afghanistan with
Pakistan was bad because of Durned-Line. Because, when
Pakistan was made then Afghanis thing that this line also
sketched by British. They did no accept this line by the british
but now Pak was established so they did not even accept this
line with Pakistan. So the situation was badly from this. From
the other side, some speeches established where some
pakhtuns were killed. That you are a independence state.
• They said that we made a new separate state Pakhtunistan.
They said that people on the area of Border Specially ANP (they
changed their politics after 1970). But earlier form this , Awami
national Party tried not the distribution of sub-continenet.
They did not want Pakistan. But this was Also. Then Walli-khan
started a compaign. And always ANP always against Pakistan
with Afghanistan. On the other hand, in Afghanistan there was
a biggest foe of our country is Zahr-Shah. But Zahar-Shah is the
King of Afghanistan, its hatness for Pak was average. But the
Prime Minister of Afghanistan Dawood-Khan was pro-soviet.
• He was in the right of Soviet Union. He was very badly against the
Pakistan. He announced that he will help pakhtuns on this Durned
Line. He did not try to solve the issue between pak and Afghan.
Because he was an anti-Pakistani. Because dawood khan was
handled all the thing from starting. That is why the issue could not
be resolved btw us. After this When Pakistan was made one unit
Such that the four provinces of West Pakistan made one Province
then they protest on this. The reason is that Firstly, KPK was

between afgan and pak. Then the relationship were bitter

• Relation with India and Russia. They were the enemy country
of Pakistan. When Afghanistan standed a pro-india and pro-
Russia. Now this time, Pakistan was alive with America. That
mean the block in Cold war was made is on one side is
Afghanistan, India and Russia and Pakistan was in Kaplus
Block. So from this internal politices also Damaged. After
this, Dawood Khan was apparoaching an Anti Pakistan. From
1953 to 1964, the situation was like this. And from 1964 to
1978, the situation between them was bitter better. The
reason is that in 1964, Dawood khan was run away from
• PM seat. Then after this Zahr Ali Shah made constitution
changes. Then the relation of PAK-AFGHAN becoming good.
Because Zahar Shah was not against Pakistan. After this , they
supported Pashtun-Baluch millitants in 1970 in Balochistan.
Dawood khan played a very important role even he was not in
position but he supported this with the help of India and
Russia with ANP and there were stopness on ANP in the period
of Zulafqar Ali Bhutto in Balochistan Pakistan. But after this ,
the counter also known in Pakistan that he accept the Islamic
strategy Pakistan had started supported a Islamic
• Group In Afghanistan. In 1978, Dawood khan killed when the
revolution reached in his president house. Then after this
Situation changed. When revolution reached in 1978 , then
in 1979 Russia entered the Afghanistan with 1 lac troops.
This time Afghanistan seperated in two groups. One group
was that supported a Russia that they came in Afghanistan.
They were Government and they were pro-Russia-
government. On the other hand , there was also Islamic
group and they are against them. The got help
• Of Pakistan. So as a Afghanistan became a place of Proxy
war. The reason is that first of all it became a place of proxy
war of America. Then after Pakistan meet with. America
Funded to Pakistan and the also created a state of proxy war
of Saudi-Arabia. Saudia gave the strick and gave the
mainpower. The result was that Pakistan trained the
Millitants and arrived to Afghanistan tried to loose the Soviet
Union. And Approximately 10 years war was running. The
mujahedeen of Afgan had full support of Pakistan and
• Saudi Arabia. In which America had his own Interest. And this was the
era of Cold War. And the biggest supporter in Pakistan was zia-ul-
haq . He was in the right of Jihad. He changed the policies and he got
down to Zulifqar Ali Bhutto . Then the son of Bhutto had made a
terrorist named Al-Zulifqar. And in 1981, PIA was hijacked. That is
known that in this hijacking , the help of Raw and KGB (Russia secret
agency) also included. They wanted that the Period of Zia-ul-haq was
stopped. And the operation in Afghanistan also stopped. But was not
succeed. America and Pakistan got success in this proxy war in
Afghanistan. And in 1989, Russia loosed and withdraw from this.
• In 1992 , soviet union divided means central asia left this.
Russia had 50k military loss from this. That why cold era
ended from this. Always relation of country to other country
Is in Government level. To that, our relation with afganistan
was not good at Government level. In 24 April 1992,
Mujahideen Government was established. Some people
thought that the government is not of Mujahideen but that
was ISI government. From this relation was good btw pak-
afghan. First time our relation became better in the level of
• Government. After this in 1996, Taliban government also
established. Taliban studied in Pakistani Madrissa so that is
why Taliban also supported Pakistan and relation was to good
in this governement.
• After this 9/11 attack America attacked on Afganistan. The
blame was on USAMA BIN LADAN and Ahmad-ul-zawari. After
this Relation btw Pak-afghan again Destructed. Because after
9/11 the government established in Afghanistan was Hamid
Karzai. He established relation with india . He built relation
with india and indian force came in Afghanistan.
• India trained themselves there and he started very big
investement there. India made strong themselves in
Afghanistan to seeing this opportunity. Operator in
Afghanistan Is America and now America against Talban And
America supported Hamid Karzai Government. So that reason
the relation of Pakistan with America also damaged. As Blamed on
Pakistan that Pakistan played a double game. Means from one side he
said Pakistan is an ithadi of America and the other side he helps
Talban because Talban made by Pakistan. Now a days this is also
blame on Pakistan that he plays double game.
• After 9/11 the relation of Pakistan and Afghanistan
again damaged because Afghanistan became a proxy
state. He took a place for india and made durned Line
again inscure. Musharaf tried to believe to USA that
he was with America in war and terror. On the other
side , we supported Talban. America stayed in
Afghanistan for 20 years and in 2021 America lost and
then Talban take over all the afganistan.
Present Relation:
• If we talk about present relation. The government of
Talban in Afghanistan but actually it is not tha
government of Talban but it is the government of ISI .
So this time. America is against us India against us. But
in state level our relation is good but we are not
recognized even the govt. of Talban. If we talk about
overall, in 1991 o 2001, our relation with afghan was
good but now not good just because pakhtuns and
the durned line.
