UDL Checklist
• Principle 1
• Principle 2
• Principle 3
• What’s Missing?
Principle 1: Provide Multiple Means of
Representation
• Guideline 1: Provide Options for Perception
• Guideline 2: Provide Options for Language, Mathematical Expressions,
and Symbols
• Guideline 3: Provide Options for Comprehension
Guideline 1
• Whole group lesson is provided through a Nearpod presentation. The
presentation includes vocabulary terms with pictures. The font is easy to
read and pictures are clear.
• The video of abiotic and biotic factors provides speech, visuals, and
closed captions.
• Written definitions of vocabulary terms are provided to students through
the Nearpod presentation and in the video.
Guideline 2
• Students are building off of prior knowledge and pictures that have been
seen in previous lessons. Vocabulary terms are broken down making it
easy to understand the vocabulary terms.
• Vocabulary terms are defined by the teacher and through videos.
Vocabulary terms are also represented by pictures on the Nearpod.
• Students will independently explore the outside for abiotic and biotic
factors with multiple means for modeling the information.
Guideline 3
• Students will be using information from previous lessons. Students will
use this knowledge when exploring the outside.
• Draw it activity- students show their knowledge by circling which objects
are biotic factors
• Students will be exploring the outside documenting their findings in
different ways.
• Students will share information in small groups and think-pair-shares.
Principle 2: Provide Multiple Means for
Action and Expression
• Guideline 4: Provide Options for Physical Action
• Guideline 5: Provide Options for Expression and Communication
• Guideline 6: Provide Options for Executive Functions
Guideline 4
• Students have the option to show their findings in multiple ways (written,
drawn, recorded) Have use of school issued laptop and cellphone.
• Directions are provided verbally, visually, and written.
Guideline 5
• Students have the toption of using flipgrid to present their information.
Student will use Nearpod to submit answers and collaborate in discussion
posts.
• Student can present their information in flipgrid recordings, drawings,
pictures, written out. This provides multiple means of representation.
• Immediate feedback through collaboration board from teachers and
students.
Guideline 6
• At the beginning of the lesson objectives and goal will be gone over for
the lesson showing the purpose of learning the information.
• Students will share and talk about what they found outside that were
abiotic and biotic factors.
• Share findings with class from their exploration activity. Students receive
direct feedback.
Principle 3: Provide Multiple Means for
Engagement
• Guideline 7: Provide Options for Recruiting Interest
• Guideline 8: Provide Options for Sustaining Effort and Persistence
• Guideline 9: Provide Options for Self-Regulation
Guideline 7
• Students have choices in how to present and express their information
• Exit ticket and draw it activity relates to real world.
• Take student interest into consideration and connecting concepts to real
world. Supporting all learning with choices and different forms of
receiving information.
Guideline 8
• Encourage students to share and discuss definitions and their findings with
a partner, group, and the class.
• Students are given alternative ways to present their information and share
their information.
• Place students in groups (peer tutoring, higher level with lower-level
students)
• Multiple opportunities for student and teacher feedback. Allow for
questions and comments during discussions and the activity.
Guideline 9
• Exit ticket to show understanding of content. This will allow for self-
reflection.
• Allow for questions and comments. Encourage student participation.
Demonstrate what students can do.
• Exit ticket provides immediate feedback.
What’s Missing?
• Guideline 2, Checkpoint 2.2: Clarify syntax and structure
• To incorporate this checkpoint in my lesson I could include digital text to Nearpod
to allow for multiple representation.
• Guideline 6, Checkpoint 6.3: Facilitate managing information and
resources
• To incorporate this checkpoint in my lesson I could provide students with a graphic
organizer to help students with organizing their notes.
