• Using: Am, Is, Are
• The word am, is, are are also verbs, but they
are not action words. They are the simple
present tense of the verb be.
Example:
 I am very hungry.
 They are my good friends.
 She is a beautiful girl.
Positive Subject Be (is, am, are) Complement

Example: I am happy
You are in the classroom.
She is a dancer.
Negative Subject Be (is, am, are) not Complement

Example: I am not happy.


You are not in the classroom
She is not a dancer

Interrogative Be (is, am, are) Subject Complement ?

Example: Am I happy?
Are you in the classroom?
Is she a dancer?

If a verb ends in y preceded by a consonant,
we change the y to i and add –es.
Example: I study ... He studies ...

If a verb ends in o, we add –es.


Example: I go ... She goes ...

If a verb ends –sh, -ch, -ss, -x. We add -es


Example: I push She pushes the door.
