Factors influencing choice of pile

There are many factors that can affect the

choice of a piled foundation but the most
important factors are:
1.Location and type of structure
2.Ground conditions
3.Durability
4.Cost

Drilled Piles

• Are installed by drilling a

hole in the soil using an
auger.
• concrete is placed in the
hole to form the pile.
• Prefer to be used for
cohesive soils
Driven Pile
• is predetermined solid
material, shape and size.
• is installed by driving or
pushing into the earth.
• Used for cohesion-less
soils.

Pile Cap

•Piles are arranged in groups of three or more.

•The group of piles is commonly tied together by a
pile cap.
•Pile cap is reinforced concrete slab attached to the
head of individual piles and causes the several piles
to act together as a pile foundation.
•The main propose of pile cap is to distribute the
load from a column equally between piles.
