This document outlines a 3-phase research design plan involving literature reviews, interviews, case studies and observations to investigate how Industry 4.0 technology can help revitalize traditional Malaysian woodcarving crafts. Phase 1 involves a literature review and expert interviews to understand the relationship between sustainability, craft and design. Phase 2 uses case studies and interviews to identify challenges to craft revitalization with new technology and potential areas of focus. Phase 3 develops a design framework integrating Industry 4.0 into woodcarving crafts, validated through feedback from authorities, academics and artisans.
