Recreation
● Recreation is an activity that you do during your free time. Recreational
activities are the activities that you also chose for your enjoyment and
self-satisfaction

Passive recreation
● Is defined as an activity that involves little exertion of energy like reading,
fishing, painting, and cooking.

Active recreation
● The mostly unstructured activity that you freely engaged in for relaxation
and enjoyment during leisure time. These activities involve using a lot of
your energy like ; dancing, playing volleyball, basketball, badminton, and
table tennis with your friends in your school during recess time or after
class.
A. Handball as an Active Recreation
● Aside from basketball and volleyball, handball could also be one
of the team sports that can serve as a recreational activity. This
team sport is easy to understand if you are familiar with how
basketball and football are being played.

● Handball is a combination of the elements of football and


basketball. It almost has the dimensions of a basketball court and
the rules of football except that it is the other way around, the
players are not allowed to use their feet in controlling the ball.
Instead, players must use the skills like passing, dribbling, and
shooting almost just like in basketball. It consists of six players
(and one goalie).
The following are the basic ways how to play
handball:
1. The ball is moved down and up on the floor that is larger than a basketball court and
your objective is to make a score, and this can be done by throwing a ball past the
goalkeeper.
2. A successful scoring attempts results in a single point.
3. The only player who is allowed to step into the goal area is the goalie.
4. The team who will start the game with a throw-ff is determined through a toss coin.
5. The game is played in halves. Each half is played within 30 minutes.
6. Each team is given one timeout call per half. Referees discretion, timeouts, or injuries
stop the clock.

B. Badminton as an Active Recreation
Another sport that can also be a recreational activity is badminton.

● Badminton is an individual-dual sport and is


also a good and enjoyable recreational activity.

● As a recreation, you will only focus on trying


to hit the shuttlecock over the net and within
the bounds of the court.

● If you are playing this game in the streets, your


objective is to hit the shuttlecock just for fun
of playing it.
