MATHEMATICS G7_MODULE 2
Learning Competencies

First
Illustrates the different
subsets of real numbers.

Second
Defines real numbers.

Third
Distinguishes the different
subsets of real numbers.
ACTIVITY 1
Describing the Elements of Set.

3
ACTIVITY 1: Describe the elements of each set below.

What did you observe in the elements of each set?

Numbers

5
Describe the elements of the set below.

6
Counting Numbers
Counting numbers or natural numbers are
the numbers we use in counting things,
that is, {𝟏, 𝟐, 𝟑, 𝟒, 𝟓,...}.

7
Describe the elements of the set below.

8
Whole Numbers
The set of whole numbers is formed by
adding 0 to the set of counting
numbers, that is, {0 , 𝟏, 𝟐, 𝟑, 𝟒,
𝟓,...}.

9
Describe the elements of the set below.

C is a set containing negative numbers.

11
Integers
The set of integers is composed of counting
numbers and their opposites including 0. That is,
{..., - 𝟒, -𝟑, - 𝟐, - 𝟏, 0, 𝟏, 𝟐, 𝟑, 𝟒, ... }.

We can use the number line to show the set of integers.

𝟗𝟏 %𝟏𝟎 % 𝟏 𝟐 𝟗𝟗 . 𝟗𝟏𝟎 . 𝟓
𝟓𝟖% 𝟒𝟑 𝟎.𝟔𝟎
𝟒𝟎 % 𝟒 0.

Percent Form Fraction Form Decimal Form

13
Non-Integers
Non-integers are the opposite of whole
numbers. Examples are the fraction ( 𝟏/𝟐),
decimal (0.03), and percent (25%).

14
Rational Numbers
Integers and non – integers are subsets of
rational numbers. The set of rational numbers
consists of all numbers which can be written as
fractions, , where a and b are both integers, and
b is not equal to 0.

15
RATIONAL NUMBERS

Examples:

16
RATIONAL NUMBERS

Are these rational numbers?

1) 3
2) 7 Yes, these are rational
3) -8 numbers since these integers
have a denominator of 1.
4) 0

RATIONAL NUMBERS

Terminating Decimal – a decimal

that has an end digit.
Examples:
1.05, 4.23, -6.7, 3.7889

19
RATIONAL NUMBERS

Repeating Decimal –a decimal, a digit or

a sequence of digits in the decimal part
keeps repeating itself infinitely.
Usually, a bar is put above the repeating
digits.
4.555…,

20
RATIONAL NUMBERS

 Integers: {...,-𝟑,-𝟐,-𝟏,0,𝟏,𝟐,𝟑,...}
 Fractions:
 Terminating Decimals: 0.56, 1.357
 Repeating Decimals: 4.555…,
 Percent: 45%, 83%, 5%

21
Irrational Numbers
Any number that CANNOT be written as a ratio (fraction)
is an irrational number. Other examples are decimal
numbers which are nonrepeating and nonterminating
decimals. For example, 2.71827…, 4.3124520…, 1.417501001…

22
Real Numbers
Putting together, the rational and the irrational
numbers are classified as real numbers.
