Definition of Veganism
Definition of Veganism

• "Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible
and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing, or
any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free
alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans, and the environment. In dietary terms, it
denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."

What do vegans eat

• A vegan diet is richly diverse and comprises all kinds of fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains,
seeds, beans, and pulses. This diet can be prepared in endless combinations, ensuring a
variety of exciting foods and flavors. From curry to cake, pasties to pizzas, all your favorite
things can be suitable for a vegan diet if they're made with plant-based ingredients.

Benefits of Veganism
Benefits of Veganism

• Well-planned vegan diets follow healthy eating guidelines, containing all the nutrients that our
bodies need. Both the British Dietetic Association and the American Academy of Nutrition and
Dietetics recognize that vegan diets are suitable for every age and stage of life. Some research
has linked vegan diets to lower blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as lower rates of heart
disease, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer. Going vegan is also an opportunity to learn
more about nutrition and cooking, improving your overall diet. Getting nutrients from plant
foods allows more room for health-promoting options like whole grains, fruit, nuts, seeds, and
vegetables, packed full of beneficial fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

Cons of Veganism
1. Reduced fertility:

• Long-term vegan diets can affect the secretion of sex hormones, leading to abnormal
ovulation in women.
• Men may experience sexual dysfunction, mental slowness, and reduced memory.
• Animal offal and meat contain vitamin B12, calcium, and iron, which are incomparable to
other vegetarian sources. Lack of these nutrients in pregnant women can cause fetal
nervous system damage.
2. Malnutrition and weakened immunity:

• Long-term vegetarianism can lead to an uneven diet and malnutrition, lowering the body's
resistance and increasing the chance of disease.
• Lack of cholesterol and fat in the body due to a vegetarian diet for a long time.
• Vegetarian diets may contain oxalic acid and phytic acid, preventing the absorption of
nutrients like iron and calcium, leading to conditions like rickets, anorexia, anemia, and
osteoporosis.
