Module 2
Corporate Culture

presentations
a. What to do BEFORE the
presentation
• Choose a team captain (aka. authority support) who will help to establish roles,
make sure roles are fulfilled, and serve as a motivator (aka. empowerment).

• Establish everyone’s role in the team, from the start (e.g., finding good visuals) to
finish (e.g., delivering the presentation). (aka. accountability)

• Rehearse once as a team (aka. shared cognition).

• Decide how questions from the audience or teacher will be handled.

• Decide how tech will be handled and who is responsible for it. (e.g., who will bring
the presentation on the USB and load it on the e-podium? Who will bring a clicker?
Who will change the slides? Who will keep time? Who will intervene if a presenter 10

freezes?) in

Module 2

presentations
b. What to do DURING the
presentation
1. Two ways to introduce each other and transition effectively between presenters:

a. One person introduces everyone at the start and each presenter transitions to the
following presenter without mentioning the name (e.g., ‘my colleague will now
discuss the importance of adding value when starting out at a new company’), OR

b. Each presenter incorporates the name of the next presenter in the transition (e.g.,
‘now that I’ve underlined specific ways our interviewee added value at Aramco,
Ahmed will talk about different ways in which a new grad could add value’).

b. What to do DURING the presentation
(cont.)
2. The time keeper will keep time and make sure everyone keeps to their allotted time.
Agree on what cue can be used when a presenter is exceeding their time.

3. Present as a unified team (i.e., shared cognition) rather than a collection of

individuals:

a. Everyone should be aware of what their teammates will be presenting and where
the transitions will take place.
b. Pay attention to your teammates as they present. Avoid fidgeting, looking bored or
disconnected from the presentation. Do not go too far from the presenter, and most
definitely do not return to your seat. Be responsive to what your teammates are 10
m
presenting by looking at them and nodding/smiling when they make a good point. in

There are many reasons for selecting this restaurant. It is brand new and
presently quite popular. As it was founded by a Thai family from San
Francisco, it offers Thai cuisine with a Western twist. The decorations include
lovely murals of Thai traditional life. The critics are also raving about the
place claiming it is the best restaurant in the city. They like especially the
reasonable places and the fact the new dishes are continuously introduced.

III. Team Juggle

practice
• Practice the ‘team juggle’ in your current 3 (or 4) person teams. Aim for 10
switches without a ball drop.

• Keep practicing until the teacher says ‘pinwheel’ and then change teams. Practice
again with your new team and aim for 10 successful switches.

• The teacher will call one more ‘pinwheel’ and then finally ‘home’. At this point
you return to your home group and practice one more time with them. This last
juggle should be the best one yet.

• Class dismissed!
