THE CREATOR OF
DISNEY
Walter Elias Disney was an American
animator, film producer and
entrepreneur. A pioneer of the
American animation industry, he
introduced several developments in
the production of cartoons.
WALT DISNEY

• Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in the Hermosa section of Chicago, Illinois. He
lived most of his childhood in Marceline, Missouri, where he began drawing, painting
and selling pictures to neighbors and family friends. In 1911, his family moved to Kansas
City, where Disney developed a love for trains.
• Walt Disney began his career in animation with the
Kansas City Film Ad Company in Missouri in 1920.
In 1922 Disney and his friend Ub Iwerks, a gifted
animator, founded the Laugh-O-gram Films studio in
Kansas City and began producing a series of cartoons
based on fables and fairy tales.
OSWALD THE LUCKY
RABBIT
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is a cartoon character created in
1927 by Walt Disney for Universal Pictures. He starred in
several animated short films released to theaters from
1927 to 1938. Twenty-seven animated Oswald shorts
were produced at the Walt Disney Studio
WHY DISNEY STOP WORKING ON THE OSLAND
LUCKY RABBIT
• In Oswald’s case, he was often depicted
as haughty, feisty, and overzealous,
which typically led to comical
misadventures that put the rabbit’s
trademark luck to the test. Due to a
financial falling out with producer
Charles Mintz, Disney abandoned the
Oswald series alongside Iwerks and a
few other loyalists.
WHY OSLAND IS CHANGED BY MICKEY MOUSE
• Oswald was originally created by Walt
Disney and Ub Iwerks for Universal
Pictures in 1927. He would be used in an
animated feature, but ultimately Disney
and Iwerks abandoned the project and
eventually created Mickey Mouse as
Oswald’s replacement
• Mickey Mouse was created as a
replacement for Oswald the Lucky
Rabbit, an earlier cartoon character that
was created by the Disney studio but
owned by Universal Pictures.

who was notorious for being the ultimate gag man and
who was inspired by 1920´s film Haunted Spooks starring
comedian Harold Lloyd who similarly tries to kill
himself, with hilarious results
