Essential Questions
● What is the role of PAGASA?
● What is the effect of landforms and bodies of
water to typhoons?
● Why the Philippines is prone to typhoons?
● What happens to typhoon once it leaves the PAR?
● Why it is important to trace the path of typhoons
that enter the PAR?

Typhoon Tracking

❖ Involve the prediction of the path of a typhoon every 6 to

12 hours over a period of at least 5 days.
❖ PAGASA uses a variety of meteorological tools and
methods to deliver accurate forecasts.
❖ Signs of an approaching typhoon
● Increasing wave height and frequency
● Increasing cloudiness
● Falling air pressure
● Heavy rainfall
Typhoon Tracking

❖ Accurate track forecast is essential because if the track

forecast goes wrong
■ Intensity
■ Rainfall
■ Storm surge
■ Tornado
will also be INCORRECT.
Use the latitude and longitude in the table below to track the
location of super typhoon Yolanda. Plot each lat-long pair
on the map with the PAR.
