Introduction

A digital level is a standard tool used in land surveying projects. Land

surveyors use them to perform advanced and automatic height
calculations on the job site. Measure the height difference between two
points, measure an angle or slope.
4
Introduction

Digital levels can perform a variety of fast and automatic calculations

including calculating:
a) Pitch
b) Angles/inclination
c) Vertical lines
5
Components of digital level

 Main components of digital level consist of two parts: Hardware

(Digital level and levelling staff) and Software.
6
Types of Digital levels

 Spinter 50
 Spinter 150
 Spinter 150m
 Spinter 250m
 Leica DNA10 Digital Level
 Leica DNA03 Digital Level
7
Advantages of digital level

 Correction of collimation error

 Minimize human error
 User friendly menus with easy to read
 Automatic data storage eliminates booking and its associated errors.
 We can operate in low light conditions.
 Fast, economic surveys resulting in saving in time
 Data on the storage medium of the level can be downloaded to a computer
enabling quick data reduction for various purposes.
8
How Does a Digital Level Work?

 Press the power button, aim the staff, adjust the focus, and with the press of
a button measure height and distance. The level shines a beam evenly over
the length of the staff and reads the barcode from the graduated rod.
9
Factors to Consider When
Choosing a Digital Level
 Accuracy: High-quality digital levels provide next-level accuracy.
 Measuring Range: How close and far can the level measure? Electronic
measuring ranges tend to fall between 1.5 m and 100 m with some
variations.
 Storage: How big is your project? Levels can store a couple thousand
reference points or up to 30,000
 Digital display: All levels feature a backlit LCD screen on the side and
the top to easily read measurements even under low light conditions.
 Battery life: Consider the battery life of your device’s batteries after
continuous use..

Conclusion

 Surveying is the process of determining the relative position of natural

and man- made features on or under the earth's surface.
 Levelling is a process to determine the vertical position of different
points below, on, or above the ground. In surveying operations,
vertical elevations and vertical control are generally derived
independently of horizontal control.
 A digital level is a standard tool used in land surveying projects. Land
surveyors use them to perform advanced and automatic height
calculations on the job site.
