The Joys of

Teaching
The joy of teaching is reciprocal. As
teachers feel the joy by giving it,
students gain joy and return it by
pleasing their teachers.
“Joy is an indispensable ingredient
of the art of teaching.”
“ Joy is the ultimate reward from both
teaching and learning.”
Here are the examples of the
joys of teachings…
Joy and satisfaction are equated with pleasure

•Pleasure means enjoyment.

•Satisfaction for having induced their
students to think of their own decision
for continued self- improvement.
Joy is both a quality and a feeling

• Active involvement in a learning activity.

• A feeling she is expressing gladness and
heartening fulfillment every time.
• Students learned by themselves after
thorough guidance and Sheperdship
Pleasure includes a feeling of gratification

• Expression of contentment could be

interpreted as a “payment” for what
difficulties and sacrifices she has weathered.
• Sincere feeling of thankfulness for the
learning achieved.
Joy is accompanied by humor and wit

•Increases their perceptiveness and

comprehension
•Joyful teacher must encourage to
relieve the daunting “gravity” of
teaching and learning.
Pleasure acknowledge the difficulties and
joys of learning
• Assured that their frustration and struggle are
but part of their learning
• Anticipation of the gains in terms of knowledge
to learn more will keep them more resolute and
engage.
The ultimate joy is in the rich harvest
• Nothing can be more gratifying, than the thought
that their students whom they “led by the hand”
have reached great heights.
• Nothing can be a better gift than be loved,
remembered and honored by them through out
their lives.

When you hear or see the
word school, what
immediately comes into
mind?
The school: A Place
for Leisure
School
- an English word, originated from the Greek: "scholé" - leisure
devoted to learning.
- different from the perspective of modern people.
JOHN DEWEY
"The school is to be a reflection of the
larger society outside its walls, in which
life can be learnt by living. But it is to
be purified, simplified and better
balanced society."
Dewey's ideal school – to guide
the students focusing more on
children's impulses and interests
rather than obtaining dry
knowledge.
The Whences of
Teaching: The What
and the How?

strategies

mission and goals of the k-12
curriculum of the DepEd.
The Parable of Coffee Beans
There was
once an
intelligent
teacher who
experimente
d the boiling
water
She put three pots of
water over the fire.
In the
first
pot, she
put
some
carrots.
In the second pot, she
put some eggs.
In the third pot, she put some
coffee beans that had been
grounded into coffee powder.
She boiled all three pots for
15 minutes.
Afterwards, she took out what she
had put in the pot of boiling water.
The carrots
which were
hard
became
soft
The eggs
which were
soft inside
became hard.
The coffee
powder
disappeared.

But the water

had the color
and the
wonderful smell
of coffee.
Then, she thought
of her life as a
teacher.
Life of a
teacher is not
always easy.
Life of a
teacher is not
always
comfortable.
Oftentimes, life
of a teacher is
trying and
difficult.
Things don't
happen as we
wish.

People don't
treat us as we
hope.
We work very
hard but get few
results.
The boiling water is like the
problems in our life as
teachers.
We can be like carrots.

We go in tough and
strong.

We come out soft and

weak.
We get very tired.
We lose hope.

We give up. There

is no more fighting
spirit
We can be like the
eggs.

We start with a soft

and sensitive heart.
We end up very hard
and unfeeling inside.
We hate our job. We
don't like our
students.

We become hard-
hearted. There is no
warm feeling, only
fatigue...
We can be like the coffee beans.

The water does not change the coffee powder. The coffee powder changes the water!
The water has become different because of the coffee powder.
You can see it.
You can smell it.
You can taste it.
The hotter the water,
the better the taste.
We can be like the coffee beans.

We can make something good from the difficulties we face at school.

We have the knowledge, the skills, and the abilities.

We have the potentials for changing the lives of our

students for the better.
We can make the
school a better
place for work.
To succeed, we must try... and try again.
We must believe in what we are doing.
We must not give up.
We must be patient. We must keep pushing.
The problems and
difficulties at
school give us the
chance to become
stronger... and
tougher...and
better teachers.
We should be like the coffee
beans! Change the people
around you at school.
Influence them with your good
work... ...even if in return they
will harbor ill feelings against
you. ...even if they will rock
you out of your wits.
