Measuring Effectiveness
 Measuring effectiveness is often overlooked in strategy development and implementation but
plays an incredibly critical role in ensuring that objectives are achieved, and money and time
invested are worth it.
 The PIVOT model is one model that covers the digital transformation process. It is
not the only model available but can be effective.

PIVOT Model
Pinpoint is the starting point. Here you identify the current mix of assets and the
business model that the company’s asset portfolio creates.

The next step is to take inventory of all the company’s assets

(intellectual, network, physical and human capital).

Visualising is essentially the planning phase. Considering how the digital

transformation will be implemented.

The next step is an extension where the implementation plan is

developed. So, visualise is the "how do we get there?" and operate is
"the exact steps we take to get there".

It is important to track if targets are being met. Track is essentially the

measurement of effectiveness (i.e. control).

P – Currently provide a strong in-store experience but need to get food

and coffee to customers
I – Skilled baristas, customers, coffee, food, poor tech
V – How do we get our food out there? Do we use Uber Eats, do we run
our own delivery service, do we need to upgrade website? Are their
community partners we can collaborate to get delivery out?
O – Let’s upgrade our website, partner with UberEats and join forces
with community businesses to create delivery
T – Track sales, orders, website hits

Digital ROI
 Managing the digital transformation process and reaching strategic goals can be done by
measuring digital ROI. This can be done through a digital ROI framework.
 Digital ROI framework

 Need to balance, and measure, digital investments across six strategic focus areas:

– Customers
Each of these focus areas are associated with specific
– Employees
metrics and related key performance indicators
– Operations (KPIs) that allow companies to track and measure the
impact of their digital initiatives more accurately,
– Safety and soundness reset the implementation process when necessary, and
make teams accountable for their roles in achieving
– Infrastructure
the desired transformation goals.
– Disruption and innovation
