INTRODUCTION

In INDIA today’s world the importance of electricity has became a source of living .
0ne cannot even imagine living a life not even one day without electricity.

Population growth and eco-friendly electricity drive a need for sustainable ideas benefiting the
country’s energy needs.

We know that INDIA is the second largest road network in the world, which contributes
6000000 (60 lakhs ).
The growing transport or the numbers of traffic on roads generate a lots of energy in the
form of pressure energy termed as Mechanical energy.

This Mechanical energy converted into Electrical energy with the help of piezoelectric
sensers.

This Electrical energy can be stored in the batteries and further can be used for the
Street lights at night and also can be distributed to the nearby village.
MAIN COMPONENT
1. Piezoelectricity Sensers
2. Bridge Rectifier
3. Capacitor / Rechargable Battery
4. LDR
5. Street Light
01. PIEZOELECTRIC SENSERS

The Piezoelectricity sensors work on the principle of Piezoelectricity. They are made up of
Creamic disc which is electrically charged.

It has the capacity to convert the pressure coming on them into electricity, They can be
embedded beneath the asphalt layer of roads .
2. BRIDGE RECTIFIER
A bridge rectifier, also known as a diode bridge , is a type of discrete semiconductor product.

They are primarily designed to convert AC input from main power to DC output.
3. CAPACITOR / RECHARGABLE BATTERY

It stores the DC electrical energy generated by the piezoelectric sensers, in the form
of an electrical charge.

The stored electrical charge is used for the street light at night time , also can be
distributed to the nearby village.
4.LDR
LIGHT DEPENDENT RESISTOR (LDR) works on the photoconductivity principle means that
resistance changes according to the intensity of light . It’s resistance decrease when an increase in
intensity of light.

It is used for the Light sensers , light meter , automatic street light .
5. STREET LIGHT
A STREET LIGHT is a raised source of light on the edge of road or path.
HOW IT WORKS
When the vehicles runs on the road, Electricity is generated with the help of
Piezoelectric sensers.

Piezoelectricity sensers uses the pressure of the vehicles termed as the

Mechanical energy converted into Electrical energy.

This AC Electrical energy converted into DC Electrical energy with the help of
Bridge Rectifier.

The DC Electrical energy stored in the capacitor / rechargable battery.

5.Good Efficiency
6.Easy Installation
7.Low cost
DISCUSSION
COST ESTIMATION FOR 1KM ROAD
:-

SIZE OF ROAD : Length = 1km = 1000m, width = 2m

AREA OF ROAD = Length*width = 1000*2 = 2000 sq.m

SIZE OF 1 SENSER = 1 sq.ft = 0.0929 sq.m

Gap between two sensers : 1.5 ( from each side ) = 1.5*2 = 3m

Area of road on which sensers been installed : 2000/3 = 666.67 sq.m = 667 sq.m

No. of sensers required for 1km road = area of road / size of one senser
= ( 667/0.0929)
= 7179.76 = 7180 nos
Cost of 1 senser = 1000( approx. )

Cost of 7180 sensers = 7180*1000 = 7180000 Rs

= 72 lakh ( approx. )
POWER GENERATION :

Case study : Hyderabad outer Ring Road Project

Overall budget of the project : 6700 crore

8 lane road of 158km stretch is laid .

If piezoelectric road constructed, the budget of the project = 1.5 times overall budget
= 1.5* 6700 crore

Energy generated from 1 km single lane road = 44000 kwh per year.

Energy generated from 158 km 8 lane road = 158*8*44000 kwh

= 55616000 kwh energy generated
Government of india charges Rs.5 on average per 1 kwh.

Hence, Cost of 55616000 kwh = 5*55616000 = 270000000 = 27 crore

The Amount which is invested on this road will get returned in only 4 years .

This Piezoelectric road has an average life of 30 years

Hence, Income generated in the next 26 years would be profit .

CONCLUSIONS ;-

In future, Piezoelectricity might become very useful source in reducing the energy
crisis to a great extend.

Some of the fields in which we can use piezoelectricity are the street lights, which
are sourced by the pressure extended by the moving vehicles into the piezoelectric
material installed for lightning.

It can be also be used to power the sign-boards .

The busy roads and airports can also be the specified areas for the piezoelectric
material for harnessing the electrical energy for various uses.
