PLANE TABLE SURVEYING

PLANE TABLE SURVEYING

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
 explain table surveying
 identify the different equipment and accessories for table
surveying
 perform setting up of plane table surveying
PLANE TABLE SURVEYING

Is a method that involves

placing a drawing board, known
as a plane table, on the ground
and using it as a reference surface.
PLANE TABLE SURVEYING
Objectives
o Creating a detailed and accurate map of the
surveyed area.
o Establishing control points and reference markers
for future surveys or construction projects.
o Determining the distances, angles, and directions
between different points on the ground.
PLANE TABLE SURVEYING

Principle
o The main principle of plane table surveying
is based on parallelism. According to this
principle, all the rays drawn through the
various details should pass through the
survey station.

Centering of Plane Table
• Set up at a convenient
height (about 1m)
• Table should be
approximately leveled by
tripod legs and its screws.
• The plane table is exactly
placed over the ground station
by U-frame and plumb bob.
Setting up PLANE TABLE SURVEYING

Levelling of Plane Table

• The bubble of level tube is

brought to center in two
directions

• Tilting of the board

ordinarily.

• Adjusting the legs of the

tripod.
