PATTERNS AND REGULARITIES

---Symmetry---Fractals---Spirals---
Symmetry
◦ Is a sense of harmonious and beautiful proportion of
balance or an object is variant to any various
transformation (reflection, rotation, or scaling).
◦ There are four types of symmetry: Bilateral Symmetry,
Radial Symmetry, Strip Patterns, Wallpaper Patterns.
Symmetry

balance or an object is variant to any various
transformation (reflection, rotation, or scaling).
◦ There are two types of symmetry: Bilateral Symmetry,
and, Radial Symmetry.
Bilateral Symmetry
◦ Is a symmetry in which the left and right
sides of the organism can be divided into
approximately mirror image of each other
along the middle line.
Radial Symmetry
◦ Is a type of symmetry around a fixed
point known as the center and can be
classified as either cyclic or dihedral.
Radial Symmetry
◦ Is a type of symmetry around a fixed
point known as the center and can be
classified as either cyclic or dihedral.
Fractals
◦ Is a curve or geometric figure, each part of which has
the same statistical character as the whole.
◦ It is a class of highly irregular shapes that are related
to continents, coastlines, and snowflakes.
◦ It is useful in modeling structures in which similar
patterns recur at progressively smaller scales, and in
describing partly random or chaotic phenomena.
Spiral
◦A logarithmic spiral is a self – similar
spiral curve which often appears in nature.
◦It was first describe by Rene Descartes and
was later investigated by Jacob Bernoulli.
Meander
◦A series of regular sinuous curves, bends,
loops, turns, or windings in the channel of
a river, stream, or others water course.
Wave
◦A disturbance that transfers energy
through matter or space, with little or no
associated mass transport.
◦It consist of oscillations or vibrations of
physical medium or field.
Foam
◦Formed by trapping pockets of gas in a
liquid or solid.
◦In most foams the volume of gas is large,
with thin films of liquid or solid separating
the regions of gas.
Tessellation
◦Is the tiling of a plane using one or more
geometric shapes, called tiles, with no
overlaps or no gaps.
Cracks
◦Is the separation of an object or material
into two or more pieces under the action of
stress.
Stripes
◦Are made by a series of bands or strips,
often of the same width and color along
length.
Affine Transformation
◦These are the processes of rotation,
reflection and scaling.
