CHANGES IN MY LIFE
Ninth grade in high school was one of the most significant moments of my life; in March of this year, I came to the
United States after leaving behind a lifetime already forged in my native country, Colombia. I knew that the
challenges that lay ahead for me and my family were not going to be easy, the fact of facing a totally unknown
environment, of learning and interacting in a language other than Spanish, generated mixed emotions. However, by
establishing relationships with multiple people (workers, colleagues, teachers), and knowing their personalities and
the cultural environment that characterizes them, they allowed me to include myself in a satisfactory way in the school
environment and in the country in general. Certainly, I would have liked to have learned English from a very young
age in my country so that the process would have been easier, but today I recognize that what I lived during this year
with the teachers and classmates, was a life learning that will be recorded for future experiences.

 10TH GRADE: NEW EDUCATIONAL CHALLENGES

During this year there was an unexpected transition in the form of education that my classmates and I received.
Because Covid-19 appeared worldwide, the modality of classes changed drastically and went from being face-
to-face to a total virtuality. I came from a very nice process of self-knowledge around my learning abilities in
school, and of sharing common spaces with my classmates from the school and with my teachers, I consider that
the improvement with the English language was much more noticeable in each of the classes and in the
communication with classmates and teachers. However, when virtuality appeared, physical contact don´t existed
and all the interaction was through a screen, an issue that limited a little the
progress around the classes and the learning process that had been bringing.
Despite this situation I am a person who faithfully believes that you must
adapt to the changes that come in life, for this reason I did my part so that
the results were the most optimal possible in this year.

 11TH GRADE: DIFFICULTIES

My eleventh year in my opinion was the most difficult in my time at school

during these four years. The topics I saw in the classes had an increasingly
high degree of difficulty that most of the time I could not understand at home
for different reasons: physical distractions, discomfort due to family situations
or simply because I was not in the ideal space to receive classes. So the delays
in subjects were evident during this year, so I stopped attending school for a
while and therefore stopped practicing English; an issue that later complicated
the fact of resuming the classes of the school. Planning a self-employment
strategy to reach the level I had lost was hard work, but in the end it was totally
worth it.

 12TH GRADE: THE END OF A PROCESS
My twelfth grade, being the year with which I culminate my journey
through school, was full of multiple emotions, expectations appear about
what I can live being away, dreams begin to take a clearer course in which
ideas materialize that were once temporary; the fact of looking for a new
space (University) that allows me to have a much more advanced learning
around my professional and personal interests leads me to think about the
process that is approaching and the new challenges that will appear along
the way as a university student. On the other hand, there are also feelings of
nostalgia for leaving behind the moments lived with exceptional classmates
and indescribable teachers who came to my days to leave a teaching and be
teachers of life.
Today I thank life for bringing me to this country to share such important

 SUMMER 2022: REST AND PREPARATION
After graduation, I hope to have an optimal time to rest mentally and physically, I plan to be
traveling for a while with my family and my cousins who come to visit Colombia, so I can think
clearly about the new decisions that are approaching in my life. As soon as I return home, the idea is
to start saving money for the University and for the purchase of material things that I consider
fundamental in the United States. However, I do not want to forget the fact of continuing to instruct
myself intellectually, I consider that for the career I chose, that is, medicine, it is necessary to begin
to delve into a series of technical terms in English that I do not yet know, it is important to visualize
myself being part of this new academic world and service to society.
